MINUTES OF THE FIRST CONVENTION OF TAPLEJUNG SOCIETY UNITED KINGDOM (TSUK) SUNDAY 25TH OF OCTOBER 2009, AT CAMBERLEY SURREY

GU16 9AR Open Session: The First TSUK General convention was commenced at 12:45 hours. The convention was moderated by Mr Bijaya Bikram Lingden, the Secretary of the Ad hoc Committee of Taplejung Society UK. The open session was chaired by the President of the Ad hoc Committee Mr Khagendra Pathak and the Chief Guest of the session was Mr Bijay Prakash Thebe, a former minister of Nepal. The Secretary formally requested the advisors of the Ad hoc committee to take their seats. He also introduced the representatives from other Nepalese organisations and requested them to take their seats as well. The following Advisors were present in the meeting: Mr Bijaya prakash Thebe, Dr Chandra Laksamba, Mr Prasad Thebe, Retd Lt. Nabin Siwa and Mrs Nar Kumari Limbu. Representatives from other Nepalese organisations partaking at the opening session were: Mr Ratnakumar Labung (President Nepalease Community Meadistone/Secretory of KYC UK), Mrs Kamala Limbu (Vice President of KYC UK), Mr Gopi Prasain (Vice President of Anterastriya Nepali Sahitya Sangh UK), Mr Ramkumar Thebe (Kirant Dharma Sanskriti Uthhan Organisation UK). Mr Nandakumar Chongbang, the Vice President of the Committee delivered a welcome speech highlighting the main events of the day. He also shared his personal views regarding the organisation, its function and activities. The Vice President of the Committee, Mr Uttamprasad Rai, Committee members, Mr Rajendra Khimding, Mr Hindu Moktan including the advisors elaborated their viewpoints and wished success to the General Meeting/Convention. Mr Khagendra Pathak, President of the Ad hoc Committee, dissolved the Committee following a brief address which paved way to the process of electing the new Executive Committee. In order to advance the process, he announced the names of the Election Committee (Adhakchhya Mandal) Members. Subsequently, the power was handed over to

the Election Committee with the note that the election would be held in a transparent, free and fair manner. The Election Committee consisted of Mr Bijaya Prakash Thebe, Mr Prasad Thebe and Ms Nar Kumari Limbu. This concluded the Part one or the Opening Session Part two - Closed Session: The outgoing Treasurer Mrs Amrita Palungwa presented the financial statement of the Society. After a lengthy debate on the financial statement, the General Meeting decided to form a committee to make the account more transparent and systematic. The committee consisted of: Mr Khagendra Pathak Mr Prasad Thebe Mrs Nar Kumari Limbu

The outgoing Secretary Mr Bijaya Bikram Lingden presented the progress report of the Taplejung Society. The Co-ordinator of the Constitution Draft Committee Mr Bijaya Bikram Lingden presented the Constitution of the Taplejung Samaj UK. After a thorough examination, discussion and analysis the First General Convention of the Taplejung Society UK endorsed the constitution with a reasonable amendment. In accordance with the Constitution of Taplejung Society UK, the Election Committee asked the willing members to submit their names as candidates for the Executive Committee (EC) elections and designate the posts as well. Likewise, a new Executive Committee was elected by the general members. The details of the newly elected EC members are in Annex A to this minute. The formal oath-taking ceremony was carried out by the Chair Person (CP) of the Election Committee, Mr Bijaya Prakash Thebe. Having completed the process; the CP of the Election Committee asked the President-elect Dr Chandra Laksamba, to say a few words. In response to this request, he thanked the outgoing Ad hoc Committee for its hard work associated with the birth and growth of the organisation. He also thanked the Addkachiya Mandal/Election Committee for running the Closed Session smoothly and handing over the power to the newly elected Executive Committee. He also thanked all Taplejungbasi for making this event a grand success. Finally the newly elected President presented the Camberley Declaration. The Camberley Declaration states: 1. The Committee will be committed for the welfare of Taplejungbasi residing in the UK. 2. The Committee will be committed to help and facilitate the integration process involving the Nepalese diasporas in the UK. 3. The Committee will ensure its close involvement with Taplejung District and assist in its efforts towards social, economic and political progress.

4. The Committee will establish a strong networking with other Nepali organisations based in UK. 5. The Committee will extend relations with other organisations serving the District which may be inside as well as outside of Nepal. 6. The Committee will maintain close relations with the Local and National level government bodies in the UK and extend similar relations with the government of Nepal. Finally, the CP of the Close Session, Mr Bijaya Prakash Thebe concluded the convention by thanking and requesting all Taplejungbsis to keep high image and reputation of the organisation in the days and years ahead.
