PDMS REPORTS: This is an excellent feature in PDMS that can be used: To check and control the quality of design

n To monitor modeling progress etc. To create a report: Decide the TYPE TYPE refers to the element that holds the attribute to be checked. This is governed by the WITH criteria. Obviously, you can not put attributes / properties in TYPE. If the attribute is applicable to more than one type of element then it becomes really important to choose the correct element.

SITE, ZONE, PIPE, EQUI, STRU, INST, PCOM etc. in DESIGN and SPCO in PARAGON are some of the commonly used examples TYPE. Decide WITH WITH refers to the selection criteria for the selected TYPE. The more accurate the selection criteria, the less checking you need to do. WITH also provides you to pick up elements from certain hierarchy if the attributes of OWNERS are set correctly e.g. PURP attribute of SITE set to PIP, EQU, STL, CIV etc.

e.g. PURP OF SITE EQ PIP Decide COLUMNS Select the attributes that you need in the report. The COLUMNS can contain both, reportable ELEMENTS that are associated by the hierarchy and the attributes that associate with the elements.

Common examples of reported attributes can be SITE, ZONE, PIPE as elements (i.e. type of fitting etc.), TEMP, PRES, ANG as attributes etc. Note: If you are going to use expressions to get the desired output, it is advisory to use Reports than Quick Reports.

Decide HIERARCHY If you choose CE (Current Element) then the report will be generated for the CE and its members. If you specify a specific name i.e. SITE or ZONE name then the report will be created for the specific Site / Zone and its offspring. If this is kept blank then selection will be made from all databases available in the MDB.

Always be careful when you are selecting the hierarchy. Otherwise the report may return a lot of unnecessary data. Note: It is always good to specify an accurate hierarchy than specifying a criterion as the former gives faster results. Use selection criteria to whittle down the data. Selection criteria come in handy if the hierarchies are multiple. QUICK REPORTS AND REPORTS Quick reports as the name suggests come in handy for checking and reporting which is non-repetitive. For more complex and more repetitive tasks, the report feature is used. The report templates can be created using Utilities > Report > Create. These saved templates can then be used as and when needed. Note: Both features have capability to export report or display onscreen. EXAMPLE: Suppose we need to find out LR 90 elbows that were trimmed / edge-formed in WBS-11100 (SITE NAME). Then: Type will be ELBO With will be MATCHWILD (NAME OF SITE, *11100*) OR ANG LT 90 OR BOTH Columns will be TYPE PIPE ANG Hierarchy can be PIP-11100A or even if it is left blank it will select elements only from 11100 (as we have defined in selection criterion). The reported Pipes then can be checked if the elbows are trimmed out of necessity or not.
