Managing risk is a critical component of public sector governance. The County Government will commit significant resources to sustain and improve services and infrastructure for the community. This requires sound governance processes that will enable the County Government to minimize risks to development, delivery of services and infrastructure projects while optimizing the allocation of resources. This course is aimed at introducing Senior County government officers into the enterprise risk management concepts. It introduces the concept and nature of risk as it relates to County Government institutions using a variety of concepts and stories to aid understanding. The principles of risk management are then addressed and then translated into practical implementable steps with illustrative case studies to enable the participants understand what is involved in implementing and monitoring a Risk Management Framework and Process across all risk disciplines in their organization. The course contains many practical examples and case studies delivered in a workshop environment with best practice examples from Australia and local case studies from the various county governments such as demonstrations by Boda Boda operators, rejections of a p p o i n t e e s by Governors, political differences between Senators and Governors affecting development projects, national government threats to dissolve a county and so on.
