February 2014
Dear Church Family, Its that time of the year when our winter guests are here in force. Many of them are very faithful in their attendance and financial giving, while they are with us. We appreciate their support. They are very complimentary of First Baptist Church. In these winter months (yes it is winter), it is easy to get complacent, especially with a packed house, but we cannot afford to slip into a maintenance mode. Our focus still has to be outward, even as we minister to and fellowship with each other. We have to remain true to our mission- making disciples. Whether it is outreach or whatever ministry we are involved in, it has to be under the direction of the Holy Spirit. It begins with us, as we surrender to the Spirit. Otherwise, we will still be trying to accomplish things in our own power, which equates to limited success. The Holy Spirits power is unlimited. If we desire to be a church used by God to reach the lost, bring hope to those hurting, and comfort the brokenhearted, then we will have to step out of our comfort zone. That means surrendering of self to the Holy Spirit, to be used by whatever way He deems necessary. We need the Spirits power and direction as we reach the lost. I encourage you to stay in the word and pray for God to move. Remember, God is at work and as we see Him moving, lets join Him
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19 HCSB

Hello Church Family! February is going to be a big month for the Student Ministry! First of all, we are excited to continue, for the 7th year, the O2 Caf. The O2 Caf will be open every Monday evening in February in the Smith Building from 5:30pm 7:00pm (please take note of the earlier time change). The menu for Monday, February 3rd will be spaghetti and meatballs complete with salad and dessert, and all other menu items will be announced in the prior Sunday morning services. All money raised at the O2 Caf goes toward scholarships for this years youth camp. This year, we will be returning to Lake Yale Baptist Conference Center for the 2014 Super Summer Camp hosted by the Florida Baptist Convention. This will be our sixth year at Super Summer and we are very excited about this years camp and what God is going to do in the lives of students. So far, in the month of January we have raised $607.74! The price for camp for each student is $270.00, meaning that we have fully funded two students camp ticket cost! While I am extremely thankful for everyone who has participated in our fundraising efforts, I know that we can do better in order to transform students lives for the glory of Christ! We hold Super Summer in very high regards not only because it is a fun experience, but more so because many of these students come to the awesome, transforming power of Jesus Christ for the first time. We are planning on a group of 40 students from FBC Frostproof! If you would like more information about Super Summer Camp, or if you would like to sponsor a student, please get in touch with me at the office (863-635-3606). It is also my pleasure to inform you that Winter Jam 2014 was an amazing success! With music being so prevalent in todays culture, our students were both encouraged and inspired by many of the Christian artists who performed. It never ceases to amaze me the power that worship has to influence our spiritual walk. Thank you for so graciously supporting our youth, and we look forward to seeing you Monday night! Keep fishing,
Bro. Brian

Children Need To Be Brought To Jesus
Luke places the encounter between Jesus and the children in Luke 18:15-17 after the story of the Pharisee and the publican to show us, in contrast to the Pharisee, the simple humble trust that is necessary to enter the kingdom of God. D. L. Moody once returned from a meeting and reported two and a half conversions. Two adults and a child, I suppose? asked his host No, said Moody, two children and an adult. The children gave their whole lives. The adult had only half of his left to give. We all know that adults need to be brought to Jesus, but with children we tend to think, Theyre just kids. Theyve got plenty of time. Besides, how much can they understand? Jesus didnt agree with that kind of thinking. He told the disciples, Permit the children to come to Me do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Studies show that the vast majority (90% or more) who trust Christ as Savior do so before age 20. That shouldnt make us stop trying to win adults to Christ, but it should encourage us to reach children. In Sunday School, AWANA, Good News Clubs and youth programs one of our main aims should be to see children come into a genuine saving relationship with Jesus Christ. They can understand the basic concepts of the gospel: sin, Christs death in their place, and the need to trust in Him for salvation. Spurgeon says that we should be less inclined to doubt a childs profession of faith than an adults, because the child is less prone to hypocrisy and he is less likely to have borrowed his words and phrases. When Jesus speaks here about receiving the kingdom as a child, He is not referring to the innocence of children. Children were not born in innocence and they are not without sin. Besides, innocence is not the qualification for entering Gods kingdom. If it were, none of us could qualify. Children are born in sin and they need Christ as their Savior as much as any adult does. Someone once asked Albert Schweitzer how children learn. He replied, Three ways; by example, by example, and by example. Children read our lives, not our lectures. The Bible clearly puts the responsibility for spiritual training in the home on parents. We must teach our children how to know Christ and walk daily with Him. We should read the Bible and pray with our families often. But, in addition to verbal teaching, our lives must back up our words. Nothing will drive a child away from the faith faster than hypocrisy. Im not talking about perfection, but reality with Christ. In the homes and in the churches, let us teach with the Word of God, with our own lives and our testimony. I am grateful that First Baptist Church of Frostproof has a legacy of teaching and reaching children and adults with the Gospel of Christ and training them to serve Him. For His KidZ,
Diane Cannon
