X As from looking at the magazine I can tell that she has tried to make a similar magazine to Q which supports her decision for the style of image which she has taken because it looks like something which represents indie / pop, and as Q is about a variety of genres, mainly in the indie / rock, this works well with the image. shadows around and the lighting is bright which focuses on the model. Manipulating photographs as appropriate to the context for presentation, including cropping and resizing X The designer of this magazine shows a range of ways to apply the photographs to the context, and they have used the correct background that doesnt have any additional extras in there that would ruin the design as the have cropped it. They also havent overused the images and placed them in the wrong areas, which is used to great effect. X For the language register of the magazine, the designer of it has used the correct terminology that you would expect to see in a magazine such as this one with its similar style. This magazine shows good use of using the threecolour palette and only three different fonts. AS well as this they show awareness of the correct style of font because for the majority of her writing, she uses sans serif font that looks professional and easy for the audience to read. X The creator of this magazine shows a great understanding of how to layout the magazine, not lonely with the front cover, but with all pages. Summary Comment: This magazine is a high level 4 due to the fact that the creator has shown a great understanding and detail of trying to base theirs upon a similar genre style of magazine, and they have used the correct layout which makes the magazine look professional.

Minimal Level 1 10 23 marks Framing a shot, including and excluding elements as appropriate X AS the image has two different backgrounds and a white lining around the three models, its very complicated and it makes it lose the professionalism which is needed very much in magazine designing it needs to be more simplistic. X This person who has created this magazine has based all of their images on a mid-shot, which shows a lack of experimenting in different ranges of camera angles that is what you wouldnt see in a typical magazine. X Albeit the photos taken arent great, the models which they have used all suit the R n b / hiphop genre which is applied to the magazine. X For the majority of the images the clothes that the models are wearing suit the design and genre, however there isnt any consistency in this due to the fact that for example there is a model in there wearing a cardigan and polo, which doesnt suit the genre. As well as this the lighting on the images are not great and it isnt clear on all of them. an image which looks like something which youd see on the front cover. Accurately using language and register X The language that is used doesnt suit or appeal to the RnB genre of music at all. Instead of using language that you would see on a rap magazine they have used words such as tune and celeb instead. X On this magazine the text isnt up to a high standard at all due to the fact that there are too many different colours which are used on the front page on the font looks very unprofessional, and similar to the colours, they use too many different fonts. X Although you can see they have tried to make it look somewhat like an RnN magazine, they havent been able to get anywhere near to that standard because of the way that everything is laid out on the every page, it all looks unprofessional. X They have used a variety of fonts, but almost too many which makes the magazine lose its touch of realism. The serif fonts that are used also look like they could do with a lot of changing and improvement.

Summary Comment This magazine design could do with a lot of improvements being made because it hasnt replicated any other similar magazine. The reason being for this is that the creator of the magazine has tried to use too many different fonts, different colours and the layout needs vastly improving because it is all unclear and confusing for the reader to get an understanding of whats going on in the magazine, and what its genre is.

Proficiency Level 3 3647 marks X The mid shot used is a good photo, however they havent made it the central visual interest that doesnt match the three-quadrant rule because the masthead tends to overlap the head and become the focus instead of the person on the cover. X The creator of this magazine has used a variety of shots and it shows a greater understanding of camera shots as they have used a different number of people in some of the shots. X The material which has been used in this magazine is mainly suited to the magazine, however some of the photos dont look particular professional and have an element of realism to it.

The music is all pop and charts music, whereas the magazine looks more indie design which makes the language register unprofessional X Its not necessarily text that links in with what the context is about and therefore it needs to be more suited to a similar pop music magazine instead of edging towards the indie example. X The page layout would be at a higher level if there wasnt as much on the page which ruins the layout because there is all too much on there. X The layout of the font is all set out professional but on the cover ruins the it because of the certain fonts theyve used and the fact t that they have used too many, however this is used to good effect on the double page and contents.

Summary Comment I think that this magazine is a low level 3 because the idea and design in some parts can be excellent, but its the little things that let this students magazine down. The student needs to be ore specific to the genre she is aiming it at instead of edging it towards the indie genre that is evidently shown in this design.

X This students needs to pay more attention to mise en scene, as from looking at this design which was aimed for the dubstep genre the student has used a girl in a jumper and a boy playing guitar which isnt dubstep. X The student hasnt used a variety of shots, and the ones which they have used are not related to the magazine what so ever so there is improvement needed to ensure different shots are used and related images. X This needs a lot of improvements due to the fact the photos which have been taken are not in the slightest related to the genre which the student is aiming for, This student needs to use costumes that are related to the dubstep genre instead of indie, and they need to work out the way to use the camera to good effect so she has better quality images. X There are some photographs in there that demonstrate a high quality such as on the contents page; however there are low quality images that evidently havent been

redesigned. X This needs some improvement but the majority of the context is about dubstep that suits their genre they are trying to recreate. X With the use of the serif font which makes the magazine look too fake and unprofessional, this needs a lot of improvement to create the simplistic design. X This student hasnt shown a great understanding of what other magazine designs are like and she has tried to create her own version, which dont match to the professional look. X This is a low level 2 because the student has shown a good understanding with some of the text in bold, but its the actual font that lets the student down and the way theyve laid the text out on the double page spread.

Summary Comment This student has shown a good idea, however it was the way she presented the whole magazine with the unprofessional lay-out and font choices that have let the student lose marks due to it not looking like another magazine.

X All of the photos used tend to be the same angle, try using a variety to show good awareness. X All the image are related to the genre of his magazine, when looking you get the feeling that it is an indie genre magazine. X Very good choice of costume for the model, the lighting could be used to create a shadow effect to show creator awareness of the photos. Correct taboo language to suit the informal language. However he needs to focus more on the contents language and add more. X The contents page especially looks unprofessional, need to fill up more of the white space a not have as much on the left side. X Can see the idea behind the magazine, improvements needed on the layout of the page and the content on it. X There are a variety of fonts, but not all of them are professional at all due to the fact that some look very informal / child-like.

Summary Comment A promising start to the magazine, as we can clearly see your idea and that you have aimed it for a indie magazine, but there needs an improvement on the lay out because it has lost its professional feel and it is evident that a student has designed it.

X Would be level 3, but the contents page needs to be clearer and look more like a common magazine instead of its own brand. X Especially on the front cover this has been as good as perfected and suits exactly the design it was after, however the contents mainly needs to be improved.

Summary Comment

If improvements are made on the contents page, this will become a much higher grade and will be one of the most professional and realistic magazines that have been created. Especially the front cover stands out clearly and you can tell its genre.

X Clothes I have used have worked well and the images of the band, however I need to ensure that the images are perfectly fitted with the positioning of the band and where they stand. X Correct positioning of the band, need more work on making sure they are cropped correctly and the white background goes all the way across. X Need improvements on the image quality and need captions around the images. Improvement on the quality of text is needed. X Correct idea and I do show understanding of what I need it to look like; however I need to be more fine with what I am doing and making sure everything fits and is laid out perfectly instead of rushing. X I have shown the right idea with the different size fonts, but again need to improve the double page spread titles, improvements will make it look a lot better.

Summary Comment

I need to redo certain images, and be more defining in what I do, so make sure all fonts for the text are the same size unless they are purposefully not, and I need to make sure I change my contents page to something that suits the genre that I am doing. Overall it is a good idea what I have done, but I need to make some changes to what I have done.
