While Talley Vineyards wines focus on the Arroyo Grande and
Edna valleys, the Bishop’s Peak label reflects more of the Central Coast
region, using grapes grown from Santa Barbara County to Monterey
County.
No matter what the label, Talley said the winery is focused on
quality, from using sustainable farming practices, to the winemaking
and the tasting room and including how employees are treated.
Indeed, Brian Talley and his wife, Johnine, established in 2004 The
Fund for Vineyard and Farm Workers, an endowment providing
grants to San Luis Obispo County organizations that assist agricultural
workers with health care, housing and educational services.
The program’s main fundraiser is the Mano Tinta (“red hand” in
Spanish) project. Mano Tinta wines are made using grapes, materials
and services that are all donated and 100 percent of the proceeds from
their sales benefit the fund.
As Talley says, “it’s all about quality.”
Talley Vineyards is a little more than five miles from the historic

What’s Happening in Santa Maria Valley Wine Country

Santa Maria Valley Wine Country Hosts Free Vineyard Walk Series
The Santa Maria Valley Wine Country will be hosting a series of free
vineyard walks throughout the Santa Maria Valley. If you drive by
vineyards and wish you were able to jump out of your car and take a

second Saturday of each month, through October, a different Santa
Maria vineyard manager, or winemaker, will lead a tour of their vine-
yard starting at 10 a.m., discussing the current state of the vineyard
and how they manage the vines. The tours will provide a first-hand
look at different viticulture techniques and stages of grapevine growth.
All vineyard walks are free to the public; a great way to get some fresh
air, exercise and education without emptying the pocketbook. With
the money saved, why not treat yourself to a wine tasting or bottle of
