Peas

Dwarf grey sugar snow pea Heirloom Vegetable An edible pod pea. This is the earliest and most dwarf sugar pea. The 6cm (2.5") long pods are light green, curved, sweet and very tender. For best quality, pods must be harvested before they develop large peas. At only 60-75cm (24"-30") tall, this good yielding pea does not need staking and is often grown as an ornamental for its pretty purple flowers. Little Marvel Heritage Vegetable Little Marvel originated in England at the turn of the 20th century. This exquisitely sweet old favourite deserves a place in every home garden. Dwarf vines 45cm (18") high produce deep green, nearly round pods 7.5cm (3") long that are tightly packed with 7-8 very tender and very sweet peas. A good freezing variety - that is if you don't eat them all straight from the garden! Alaska Heirloom Vegetable This is the pea often used as the legendary 'split-pea' of yesteryear. A very early maturing pea nicely suited to freezing and canning. Pods are light green, straight and blunt-ended and are filled with 6-8 light green, very sweet peas. A reliable, consistent performer that is a favourite of commercial growers and home gardeners too! Vines grow from 60-90cm (2-3') in height so growing them on netting or other low support will certainly help make picking that much easier. NOTE: Smooth-seeded pea. Sugar Sprint Peas Early and compact plant. Sugar Sprint has a bush habit, making it ideal for small spaceefficient gardens or containers. This snap pea bears delicious, sweet pods 3 long. Beans Bush
Blue lake Heirloom Vegetable Green, excellent flavour, rounded 15 cm (6") long green meaty pods are solid and not stringy at all. As this variety produces big bushy plants up to 45cm (18") wide, give them row to grow with widely spaced rows. Bush Blue Lake is a home and market garden favourite and is a favourite for canning and freezing. The seeds of this variety when allowed to mature are white. Pencil pod yellow Heirloom Vegetable This vigorous, stocky bush bean is a prolific producer. Fleshy, light yellow pods 12 15cm (5 to 6") long are quite tender and generally stringless. Royal burgundy Heirloom Vegetable This trusted purple podded variety is a productive and long bearing favourite. A good choice to get a jump on the season when the soil is still on the cool side. Richly textured, crispy and meaty 15cm (6") long pods have a delicious flavour whether eaten fresh or brought out from the freezer over the winter. When cooked for 2 minutes, the pods turn a bright green indicating the perfect blanching time for freezing! Brown Seed. Windsor Broad bean/ fava bean Heirloom Vegetable Long, straight pods with 5 to 6 large, meaty beans per pod. A good, general-purpose Fava bean variety. Austin Malones Barchard pea bean Bush bean, flat pod, can use are snap bean, fresh bean (like a pea) or dried. Scarlet Runner Heirloom Vegetable Growing to 3m (10') or more in height, these densely leaved, vigorously growing plants are used as ornamental climbers due to the abundance of brilliant scarlet flowers they produce. The broad, oval, string-less pods are delicious when harvested and cooked young. Pick mature pods to ensure continuous production of the beautiful flowers. The scarlet red flowers are also a sure-fire hummingbird attractant! The window for picking it as a snap bean is small, but this African heirloom excels as a dry shell bean that tolerates heat and drought well. Black Turtle Bean (Soup, Baking, Dry) (Bush) 100 days. Great soup bean. Small, black beans, 4-5/pod. Seeds have a very delicate skin, and when cooked, make a creamy soup. Good drought tolerance, some bean beetle resistance. Butterbean Soya bean Productive and ripening to a pale green color. So sweetly flavorful, some prefer Butterbeans to limas in their succotash recipes.

Root
Early scarlet Radish Heirloom Vegetable Bright scarlet roots with pure white, crisp, tender flesh that has a very mild taste. Our stock is a special strain with medium tops about 7.5cm (3") high. This is a good variety to choose if your soil tends to be a little sandy or on the drier side.

Laurnetian turnip Heirloom Vegetable This popular purple-top cream-yellow rutabaga (not summer turnip) is the best winter keeper going. The seed is specially grown for us from certified stock. Sized seed. Detroit dark red beet Heirloom Vegetable This variety is the standard bearer of the beet family! Dark red, globe shaped roots have a smooth crown and small taproot. The quick maturity, sweet slightly earthy taste, uniform shape and consistent interior colour make this variety the perfect candidate for canning or freezing. Very low in geosmin. Geosmin is the naturally occurring compound in beets responsible for "earthy" flavours. Bulls Blood Beet Heirloom Vegetable 30 days baby leaf, 60 days roots Bull's Blood is a great choice for those who want to diversify their selection of spring greens with a little splash of deep, burgundy red. Now our restaurant clients are asking for this guy by name! We planted Bulls Blood late fall in our high tunnel and were amazed at the most vibrant, deep-maroon shiny leaves that tasted so sweet on a cold Novembers eve. Old heritage variety from about 1840, when beets were more commonly referred to as "blood turnips". Dual-purpose Heirloom. Deep red leaves are sweeter than radicchio and the young tops make an attractive addition to salad mixes. The scarlet roots are uniform with a sweet, wholesome flavour and best when harvested young. (Need to order from Hope or vesey or osc) Chioggia beet Heirloom Vegetable. Beautiful colour. Striking purple and white interior zoning with a sweet peppery flavour. The 10-12 inch, pink striped stems are smooth, green and mild tasting. An Italian home garden favourite with small, flattened globe shaped roots. Heavy yields. Maturity 60 days. Green tops and red stems are excellent for colourful salads and the 5cm (2") roots have a delicious "old country" taste when cooked. Higher levels of geosmin (earthy flavour) account for its popularity with beet purists. (need to order from vesey or osc) Baby finger Carrot Openpollinated (instead of Fonda di parigi from Hope) With a length of no more than 9cm (3.5") and a diameter under 1.5cm (1/2"), these are the perfect choice for canning whole. Exceptional flavour and tenderness make this miniature carrot a gourmet's delight! Chantenay red carrot Heirloom Vegetable One of our most popular storage varieties. Orange-scarlet roots are smooth, evenshaped and free from eyes. The meaty carrots are 15cm (6") long and 2.5 cm (1") thick with a sweet taste. A garden staple that is a good choice for soils that tend to be a little heavier.

Cabbage Family
Cabbage golden acre Heirloom Vegetable An early Copenhagen type producing solid, round heads on small compact plants. This is the earliest maturing cabbage we offer. Heads weigh about 2kg (4.4lbs) and grow to

about 15-17cm (6-6.5") in diameter. Tolerates closer spacing than many cabbages, possesses superb bolting resistance and is an excellent choice for poorer soils. Savoy Chieftain Heritage Vegetable Globe shaped heads are thick and flat with a short core and an average weight of 2.7kgs (6lbs). Stunning crinkled or "savoyed" dark green leaves are a departure from the norm and help to make this variety a visual treat in the garden and a culinary triumph in the home. Withstands fall frosts better than other varieties and is reputed to be the best tasting of all types of cabbages. (osc) Mammoth Red Rock cabbage. Visually intriguing with an intricate interior design, Mammoth Red Rock makes a stunning addition to salads and holds its superb flavour when cooked (osc) Brussel sprout long island Heirloom Vegetable This open pollinated variety continues to perform well for home gardeners and has retained its excellent eating quality and uniformity through the years. Strong, large plants to 60cm (24") tall easily 50 to 100 dark green sprouts about 2.5cm (1") in diameter along the strong central stem. Good flavour and exceptionally heavy yielding. Also known as "Catskill" variety. A long-time home garden favorite in northeastern North America Broccoli green sprouting Heirloom Vegetable Broccoli has been cultivated for over 2000 years. This garden favorite is native to the Mediterranean but migrated throughout the world to become a major vegetable of choice for home gardeners. Broccoli are high in vitamins A and C, folic acid and iron. Interestingly, broccoli contains high levels of the reputed cancer fighting compound, sulforaphane. Green Sprouting is an old Italian variety that matures early and is surprisingly easy to grow. Large vigorous plants grow to 50cm (20") tall. Greens
Bloomsdale long standing Spinach Heirloom Vegetable This standard Savoy leaf-form is excellent raw in salads or cooked as a side dish. The glossy, broad, deep green, fleshy leaves are long standing in the sun and heat. . Buttercrunch: A medium green, long standing variety. The crisp, thick leaves are sweet and tender and free from any hint of bitterness. Hidden within the enticing outer leaves is the beautiful "buttery heart". Swiss chard bright lights Open pollinated Brightly coloured stems of yellow, crimson, gold, orange, violet, purple, white, green and pink with contrasting dark green, crinkled leaves. Leaves have a lighter taste than the standard chards. Often used as an ornamental in flower gardens. Forde hook giant swiss chard Heirloom Vegetable Huge, glossy dark green white veined leaves are fleshy, crumpled and attractive. This is the best variety for greens as it always produces a bumper crop of tasty leaves - even during periods of high temperatures! Maintain sufficient soil moisture to keep plants from wilting. Try carefully removing leaves from the root crown. By doing this, new leaves will sprout for harvesting all summer long. Swiss chard rhubarb openpollinated A stunning looking plant! The leaves resemble rhubarb in both shape and the colour being dark green, slightly crumpled and veined crimson. The ribs are narrow but fleshy with the main stems being a bright red. Rhubard Chard is great to eat and makes a dandy ornamental!

Introduced in 1888. Cucumber straight 8 Heirloom Vegetable Like a trusted friend, this variety can always be counted on to come through! An old favourite that produces outstanding yields of straight, 20cm (8") long, smooth skinned, dark green cucumbers. Great for slicing or for using in relishes. Cucumber marketmore open pollinated A high yielding variety producing perfectly shaped, uniform, dark green cucumbers 2022cm (8-9") long. Superb for slicing. Highly disease resistant. Corn this is the only corn that can be tried in smg, the rest are too tall
Baby orchard Corn: Finally, corn for short-season small gardens! Its amazing to see how early and undemanding this special variety yields sweet corn. The 5 (12.5 cm) long ears dont extend to the usual commercial size but theres still a respectable cropespecially when considering theres up to 5 cobs per plant. Fully grown Orchard Baby Corn only reach a yard (a meter) high. Such compact plants can be spaced far closer (and so, take up less room) than other corns.

Onions
We will try to get a good price, and have onion sets, no point getting seeds

Annual Fruits
Aunt mollies ground cherry Delicious tropical taste in an attractive paper wrapper. Ground cherries are very sweet and taste a bit like pineapples. Can be used in preserves, pies or over ice-cream, but here at Veseys we love to eat them raw. The fruit from these prolific plants can be stored for 3-4 weeks after harvesting. Start indoors like peppers. Matures in 60-65 days after transplanting. Sunberry Perfect for pies. A really unique addition to the garden. Good for fresh eating and exceptionally great for pies - simply substitute for blueberries. Similar in appearance to Huckleberries but sweeter in flavour. Matures in 80 days from transplant
