What is the Amazing gRace?

At its core, the Amazing gRace is a community scavenger hunt that combines brain-twisting challenges, service work, community outreach, and social justice education for gRacers and event volunteers alike. Based upon the maxim that a rising tide raises all boats, the Amazing gRace helps mission communities to connect the dots of our collective service in a fun way that promotes fellowship and a broader awareness of community social justice efforts. On this one-day event, teams of two people will compete against each other to solve a specified number of challenges spread out across the Twin Cities. Some examples of different tasks that participants might be asked to complete are: Make their way to a placement site such as a food shelter, and shelve a set amount of food as quickly as possible Interview a placement client, employee, or board member to learn more about the organization and its history Locate a historical social justice site or visit a social justice organization and learn about a specific event that occurred in the city or states history Stop at one of the Volunteer houses and participate in an intentional community exercise like prepping for a community meal or doing a team building exercise Make a short video/powerpoint presentation of the day to share with the community during the celebration at the end of the Amazing gRace

The Amazing gRace will begin at Luther Seminary in St. Paul and end with a community celebration at Redeemer Lutheran Church in North Minneapolis.

Participation Requirements Participants in the Amazing gRace must be at least 18 years of age. If you are between 16 18 years of age, you must have written consent from a parent or guardian to participate in the event. In addition, gRacers between the ages of 16 18 must be paired with a teammate who is at least 18 or older in order to participate. Fundraising Information and Deadline Each Amazing gRace participant must raise a minimum of $500 (including your initial deposit) to compete in the race. LVC staff will assist you in your fundraising efforts by setting up an individual online fundraising page, reaching out to donors and the LVC community to make a contribution and working with individual participants to brainstorm about fundraising ideas. You must complete all fundraising by April 12th, 2 weeks prior to the event. If you do not meet the total ($500) by this date, you will be charged the balance of your fundraising requirement. You have until 30 days after the event (May 26, 2014) to continue raising funds, at which point you may be eligible for a deposit refund (see below). If you raise $1000 or more, you will be able to share a portion of the money raised with the LVC placement of your choice according to the following schedule: Funds Raised $500-$999 At $1,000 Beyond $1,000 Beneficiary Lutheran Volunteer Corps $750 to LVC and $250 to LVC placement agency of choice Funds raised above $1,000 will be split between the placement agency and LVC.

Deposit Requirement When you have signed and returned the Participant Agreement Form your on-file credit card will be charged a $100 deposit. This deposit is required to reserve your space and will be held until completion of your fundraising requirement. Deposit Refund Your initial deposit will be credited toward your fundraising requirement. Every dollar you raise above the $500 fundraising requirement up to the amount of deposits/payments that you have made towards your requirement will be refundable 60 days after the Amazing gRace event. Example Your fundraising requirement is $500. Including your $100 deposit, you raise: a total of $600 or more, your entire deposit will be refunded. a total of $550 , you would be eligible for a refund of $50. a total of $500, you would not be eligible for a refund, a total of $400, you would not be eligible for a refund, and your card would be charged an additional $100. Refund/Cancellation Policy Once you have registered and signed the Participant Agreement you are obligated to complete your fundraising requirement regardless of your participation in the event. If you cancel for any reason prior to fulfillment of your fundraising requirement your credit card will be charged the balance due at the time of cancellation. Because our plans for the event are dependent on the number of participants, we cannot make exceptions for any reason.

Your experience with the Amazing gRace is important to us. In order to facilitate a positive experience for you, we ask that you take a moment to carefully read the following policies. Please read each statement carefully and initial in the box to the right to indicate you: 1. Understand the policy. 2. Agree to comply. I understand that my participation in the Amazing gRace is voluntary and that by signing this document, I am obligated to meet my fundraising requirement. I understand that if I fail to meet my fundraising requirement through donations I receive, I will be personally responsible for the remaining balance, which will be charged to my credit card. I hereby acknowledge that my credit card has, and will have, enough credit to accommodate this requirement. I understand that the Amazing gRace is a unique opportunity for me as a fundraiser for Lutheran Volunteer Corps. I understand that the donations I collect for my fundraising requirement go directly to support LVCs mission and programs, and or the LVC placement of my choice should my fundraising efforts exceed $999. I understand and agree that my photograph including video photography, film photography, or other reproduction of my likeness, may be used without charge by the Lutheran Volunteer Corps, producers, sponsors, organizers, and or its assign for such purposes as they deem appropriate. Release of Liability Agreement Amazing gRace - Lutheran Volunteer Corps

I understand that there may be risks and dangers inherent in participating Amazing gRace 2014 with the Lutheran Volunteer Corps. I also understand that in order to be allowed to participate in the Amazing gRace 2014, I must give up my rights to hold both the Board of Directors of the Lutheran Volunteer Corps and all those associated with Lutheran Volunteer Corps liable for any injury or damage which I may suffer while participating in the Amazing gRace 2014. Knowing this, and in consideration of being permitted to participate in the Amazing gRace 2014, I hereby voluntarily release the Board of Directors of Lutheran Volunteer Corps and all those associated with its Amazing gRace 2014 from any and all liability resulting from or arising out of my participation in the Amazing gRace. I understand and agree that I am releasing not only the entities set forth in the paragraph above, but also the officers, staff, agents, volunteers, project directors, and employees of those entities. I understand and agree that this Release will have the effect of releasing, discharging, waiving and forever relinquishing any and all actions or causes of action that I may have or have had, whether past, present or future, whether known or unknown, and whether anticipated or unanticipated by me, arising out of my participation in the Amazing gRace 2014. This Release constitutes a complete release, discharge and waiver of any and all actions causes of action against the Board of Directors of the Lutheran Volunteer Corps its officers, agents, volunteers, and all those associated with Lutheran Volunteer Corps and the Amazing gRace. I understand and agree that this release applies to personal injury, property damage, or wrongful death which I may suffer, even if caused by the acts or omissions of others. I understand and agree that by signing this Release, I am assuming full responsibility for any and all risk of death or personal injury or property damage suffered by me while participating in Amazing gRace 2014. I understand and agree that this Release will be binding on me, my spouse, my heirs, my personal representatives, my assigns, my children and guardian ad litem for said children. I understand and agree that by signing this Release, I am to release, indemnify and hold the Board of Directors of Lutheran Volunteer Corps, its officers, agents, volunteers, and all those associated with Lutheran Volunteer Corps and the Amazing gRace 2014 harmless from any and all liability or costs, including attorneys fees, associated with or rising from my participation in the Amazing gRace. I acknowledge that I have read this Release Agreement and that I understand the words and language in it. I have been advised of the potential dangers incidental to participating in the Amazing gRace.
