This document discusses a computational model for estimating the residual fatigue life of attachment lugs under cyclic loading. It presents a model for analyzing crack growth in lugs with either a quarter-elliptical corner crack or a through-thickness crack. Stress intensity factors are determined using analytical and numerical finite element methods. The model is validated by comparing crack growth predictions to experimental fatigue data. Numerical examples analyze stress in a lug with a through-thickness crack and calculate the number of loading cycles until failure for a lug with the same crack configuration. The results from analytical and finite element methods for stress intensity factors are also compared.
