While his first 185-pound appearance in the Octagon resulted in a spectacular fi nish, The Dragon had to take a different approach on Saturday night, as he outpoin ted the crafty Gegard Mousasi in the UFC Fight Night 36 headliner at the Arena J aragua in Jaragau do Sul, Brazil. Machida s quick hands and feet proved to be the difference, as he was able to confound yet another opponent with his skilled str iking and elusive movement. With the win, the former light heavyweight champion is right in the middle of the title discussion in his new division. Ronaldo Souza also captured a significant middleweight triumph, taking a three-r ound verdict over the streaking Francis Carmont in the evening s co-main event. Th e grappling chops of Jacare were on full display, as he frustrated his powerful fo e thanks to dominant back control for a majority of the contest. Like Machida, S ouza is on the short list of top contenders at 185 pounds.
