A friend of mine emailed to ask me what "war is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength" means. And here lies the answer. What "war is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength" meant to the INGSOC %ne of the main mind programs of the party was the so called "dou"le thinking", or doublethink, which "descri"es the act of simultaneously accepting two mutually contradictory "eliefs as correct, often in distinct social conte#ts." "War is peace" and "freedom is slavery" are good e#amples of dou"le thinking. hough contradictory "y definition, they were "oth accepted as correct, simultaneously. his meant that even though %ceania was in a constant state of war, the people were acting like there was peace as well, hence they could easily switch from one emotion to the other, in accordance to what he -arty asked from them. "/reedom is slavery" is the very concept of our glo"al societies and the "iggest and most ignored pro"lem of a so called democracy.
