INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE SPEED-MEMORY COMPETITION SIMULATOR

Speed-Memory is the organization which officially regulates speed memory competitions. Its web page is: www.speed-memory.com The Speed-Memory competition program consists of si spectacular speed memory tests. It was created in !""# by $amon %ampayo &www.ramoncampayo.com'( world champion and record holder since !"")( who is currently recognized as the fastest memorizer in the world. The Speed-Memory software was de*eloped by computer engineer +os, Mar-a .ea &www./osemariabea.com'. This is open software. 0e hope you en/oy it as you train and de*elop your mental capacity. In order for the program to wor1( you will need to install the latest *ersion of .Net Framework by Microsoft.

1. FIRST SCREEN 2n the first screen you can select any of the following options: - Tra ! !". To train for all the tests. - #ro$%& ' S()oo*&. %ompetition mode especially for schools. It is used for competition when there is /ust one computer and the information is pro/ected so that all competitors can see the tests. - Com%et t o!. Standard Speed-Memory competition mode. The program will log the results of each of the 3 tests( and it will automatically mo*e from one test to the ne t until the end of the competition. 4lthough this mode does allow you to acti*ate the training 1ey should you so desire( it will not allow you to brea1 the rules of competition. - E+) , t o!. This is for other speed memory tests which are not included in the competition. In both %ompetition and 5 hibition modes your computer will first ha*e to pass a Speed Test to confirm that it fulfils the minimum power re6uirements. Then se*eral bo es will appear in which the competitor will be as1ed to pro*ide certain information: seat number( name and current

title. There will be another bo for competition /udges to enter a security code. This information can be left blan1.

THE SIMULATOR .OR/S 5nter the tra ! !" mode. 2n the left you can select the number of digits you want( whether decimals or binary numbers( and the e position time &seconds' during which these digits will appear on the screen. 0e remind you that official competition times are 7 and 8 seconds( both for decimal numbers and binary numbers. 9ou may also open and sa*e configurations. 4cti*ate the :2 bo to begin and clic1 on %hec1 to see results. - Fa&t mo0e. If this option is not acti*ated you will see a few blan1 cells in which you can record your results. The program will automatically correct your responses by showing your errors in red. - Ca*($*ator. This is a calculator which allows you to determine the sum of any scores you enter. It will also show you whether or not you would obtain a master title by recei*ing these scores in competition. - Co!1 "$rat o!. This has fi*e tabs: #e!era*. 9ou can configure an infinite number of numerical presentations by modifying the number of columns( separation between rows and columns and distance between groups of columns &/ump columns'. 5mpty cells. The *alue you enter here will cause the digit shown in said position to disappear from the screen( lea*ing a blan1 in its place. If you would li1e to lea*e se*eral blan1s( separate their *alues with commas. If you put a dash between ! digits( the entire range between those digits will disappear. ;or e ample( if you write: ).<=( the digits positioned as )( <( 3( # and = will not be shown. The total number of digits will still be shown( but this will be shown toward the right. 5mpty columns. This wor1s in the same way as the empty cells tab( e cept that in this case the entire column representing the *alue you enter will disappear.

Sentinel. 5*ery time you confirm your results by clic1ing on chec1 you will see a small arrow which will indicate where the numbers for the ne t test will be shown on the screen. 4uto. These are pre-established numerical groupings. Mar" !. This helps you select the place where the digits will be shown. Fo!t. Select the font( size and color of the digits. 2 !ar3. >ere you can assign letters to codes for !( ) or 8 binary numbers so that you?ll be able to write your results more 6uic1ly. @on?t forget to sa*e your fa*orite configuration. Mo4e. %lic1 on any number you li1e to change its location. 9ou can select many numbers at once by holding down the left button on your mouse and tracing diagonals toward the bottom and the right. 9ou can unselect these numbers in the same way or by using the unselect all 1ey. The remo*e manual 1ey re-establishes the positions of all the digits to their original location.

- #eoMem. This is the name of the test for memorizing color figures. Its access icon is located to the e treme right( beside the Matri Mem icon. Aumber. The number of color figures which will appear during the test. %ompetition *alue is 7<. Seconds. Select the time in seconds during which each figure will be shown. The lower this *alue is( the higher the potential score you can recei*e( but this will also be the passing speed. .lan1 time. The time that passes from when one figure disappears to when the ne t figure is shown. %ompetition *alue is ".!. %onstant time. If this is acti*ated( the time between figures will always be the same. If you deacti*ate this bo ( the figures will be shown at an increasingly 6uic1 speed( /ust as they are in a real competition. 4 colorful icon will show you an illustrati*e score chart. 9ou will see that if you choose a passing time of 7.8 seconds or less( you will need to memorize a minimum of 7" figures in order to score. Therefore( begin by practicing with 7.#< seconds. 9ou can ha*e access to all the possible scores by using the calculator which is incorporated into this software.

- Matr +Mem. This the name of the matri memorization test. Select the number of columns( rows and size in which the matri es will be shown. Aumber. Aumber of matri es which will appear during the test. %ompetition *alue is 7!. Showtime. This indicates the amount of seconds during which the matri es will be *isible. %ompetition *alue is <. .lan1 time. This is the time that passes from when one matri disappears and the ne t is shown. %ompetition *alue is 7. %onstant time. If this is acti*ated( the time between matri es will always be the same. If you deacti*ate this bo ( the matri es will be shown at an increasingly 6uic1 speed( /ust as they are in a real competition. 2nce the last matri has disappeared from the screen( the results form will open. @raw the matri es by using your mouse to clic1 in those cells you wish to paint with the color blue. %onfiguration. 9ou can assign letters to codes for !( ) or 8 bo es to form binary groupings of colors so that you will be able to write the answers more 6uic1ly. Sa*e your configuration. 4n arrow pointing to the right allows you to mo*e directly to the second matri when you ha*e finished writing your results for the first. If you clic1 on the arrow to change it so that it is pointing left( you will begin by writing your response to the last matri and continue bac1wards. If you don?t remember the results for a matri ( press tab and the program will s1ip to the ne t matri . 4 red dot will indicate that said matri has not yet been answered. 9ou can mo*e 6uic1ly through the matri form by using your mouse or the arrows on your 1eyboard.
