WheneverarecoverableerroroccursduringPOST,theBIOSdisplays anerrormessagedescribingtheproblem. Ifasystembootisincomplete(forexample,thesystemisturnedoff whileitisgoingthroughthePOST),thenthenexttimethesystemis poweredonyoumaygetamessagestatingthatthepreviousbootwas incomplete.TheBIOSwillreverttosafevaluesforthechipset,caches, I/Ocomponents,etc.Thisprovidesthebestpossibilityofreturningto theSetuproutineandtonormalfunctioning,butthesevaluesdonot alwaysproducemaximumsystemperformance.Toachievemaximum performanceaftertheBIOShasrevertedtosafevalues,reenterSetup andselectthemaximumperformancevalues. If,forexample,theterminalwasturnedoffduringPOST,youcan returntothemaximumperformancevaluesbyenteringSetupand exitingorbyrebooting. ThereareseveralPOSTroutinesthatissueaPOSTTerminalErrorand shutdownthesystemiftheyfail.Beforeshuttingdownthesystem,the terminalerrorhandlerissuesabeepcodesignifyingthetestpoint error,thenwritestheerrortoport80handattemptstoinitializethe video.Thehandlerwritestheerrorintheupperleftcornerofthe screen(usingbothmonoandcoloradapters).Theroutinederivesthe beepcodefromthetestpointerrorasfollows: 1. The8biterrorcodeisbrokendowntofour2bitgroups. 2. Eachgroupismadeonebased(1through4)byadding1. 3. Shortbeepsaregeneratedforthenumberoftimesineachgroup. Example: Testpoint01Ah=00011010=1233beeps
