May-June 2014 | Northeast We are looking for young Viet students, advocates/organizers, teachers/artists, farmers/workers in the Northeast region ages 18-35. WHAT: The Hai B Trng School of Organizing is a training program for young self-identified progressive Vietnamese organizers. Participants have the opportunity to explore a progressive Vietnamese American identity, learn the basics of organizing theory and skills, and connect to local and national organizers doing social justice work. The training will focus on best practices and challenges unique to organizing in the Vietnamese American community in the Northeast region. This training is proposed for those ages 18-33; however, all are encouraged to apply. COST: We would appreciate a sliding scale donation of $10 $100 to cover various expenses. However, no one will be turned away for lack of funds. WHEN: The training is on May 30th - June 1st (Friday-Sunday). WHERE: Philadelphia, PA. South Philadelphia High School; Chinatown; Washington Ave
three cohorts and expanded into Northern California. In 2014, HBT will be held in the Northeast for the first time, and we hope to dive deeper into community issues, challenges, and opportunities unique to the Viet community in the Northeast region, and a day of handson fieldwork. Besides Northeast, the HBT School WILL also offered in Southern California in 2014, with an emphasis on self-identified Vietnamese American progressives from Southern California and across the nation. HBT Northeast, NorCal, and SoCal share similar methodologies and training curricula, but operate independently.
