DELL - LOLLIPOP TREATS COMMERCIAL HQ The Dell - Lollipop Treats Commercial HQ was first aired in 2009.

It is an advertisement for the Dell Inspiron laptop with workers singing the 1958 hit Lollipop by the Chordettes. There were no actual instruments used in the making of the song for this advertisement. It was performed a cappella with various sound effects. There were four vocalists which help make up the barbershop quartet style of this music. These parts were tenor, lead, baritone and bass. The lead sang the melody only from the beginning at 0:02 the baritone joined, first singing the same note as the lead, then harmonising. At 0:04 the tenor joined in and completed the chord. The bass singer then sang a connecting passage to connect the chorus to the verse while all other vocalists were silent. Since there were different things going on at different times in this advertisement, there were various textures. At the beginning when the alto singer sang there was a monophonic texture. When the baritone joined, a homophonic texture was observed. When the tenor joined, a homophonic texture was maintained. Unison was then heard when the bass vocalist sang the connecting passage while it was also done by a sound effect. A polyphonic texture was then observed from the start of the verse at 0:08 and was maintained until the end of the song. The piece of music was in binary form as it had two distinct parts A and B, where A is the chorus and B is the verse. A major tonality was utilised to keep in the cheerful mood of the song in this advertisement. There was a consistent use of harmony in the second part. Harmonic intervals were heard when the various harmonies joined. An inverted sixth was heard when the baritone singer joined in singing at 0:02. When the tenor joined there was an inverted major triad. When A is revisited it was embellished with harmonies. A fast speed (allegro in music) was maintained throughout the song to keep with the cheerful mood of the advertisement. It was written in 4/4 time.

Syncopated rhythms were also used in the music in this advertisement. These rhythms help to enhance the feeling of the barbershop quartet style of music. Dynamics is another key point in the music for this advertisement. The vocalists sang at a moderately loud volume, that is, mezzo forte. All sound effects were done at a moderately soft volume, that is, mezzo piano, so that they would not overpower the vocalists. The only sound effect that was not done at this volume was the one done at 0:13-0:14 which was done at a loud volume, which is forte, to mimic the sound of an elephant stamping one of the advertised laptops down to size. In making the music for this advertisement, the composer had not only thought about how it would attract people of the United States of America, but also to attract people from different parts of the world. As Dell computers are an international product, the advertisement would be aired all over the world. Other than this international audience, they were trying to appeal to a specific group of people that is, the younger ones. This is seen as they used very colourful laptops and backdrops. They also compared these laptops to lollipops, trying to relate to the younger crowd.
