Course Description
This course is the second stage of the Elementary Level of the Arabic Language
programme. Students taking this course are exposed to the vocabulary, grammar and Arabic
phrases as well as intermediate level conversational Arabic in daily situational context.
Cultural elements are also incorporated in the course. Emphasis is given to consolidating the
four communication skills, namely listening, speaking, reading and writing. The course aims
to equip students with the ability to communicate using more complex Arabic phrases
relevant to intermediate level.
Syllabus Content
This course will focus on the receptive skills which include listening and reading skills and
also on the productive skills which include writing and speaking skills. The contents of the
course are as follow:
To introduce Arabic characters in terms of pronunciation and writing, and to
pronounce short and long vowels through words, phrases and sentences.
To introduce the phrases that are commonly used in daily communication (hobbies,
in the village, visit and travelling)

Teaching Methodology
This course uses communicative approach. Therefore, various techniques have been used
such as:
Student centered learning, which means the students will play an active role during the
learning process. Lecturers are only being facilitators.
To create a good environment which students and lecturers can communicate to each
others in one hand and students communicate among themselves in another hand. This
environment is to ensure the involvement of the students during learning process.
Here are among the techniques that have been used in the class:
- story telling
-guided reading
-reading loudly and silently
- drill
- public speaking
- question and answer
- language games
- brain storming
- role-play
