Study Guide 1st Semester SECTION 1: Commentary

Twelve questions will be given in this section. You will have to complete ten. Study: 1. Is it permissible to touch Bismillahir Ramnir Rahm without Wuu? No, since Bismillahir Ramnir Rahm is considered part of the Quran, it is impermissible to touch it without wudhu. 2. If in the middle of recitation, you begin talking, texting, etc., what should you do to continue reciting? During recitation, if you do something besides reciting, the rulings will begin again. You will have to recite both and . 3. Why is the Ism ( )in Bismillhir Ramnir Rahm written without an Alif? There are two possibilities: 1- So that the name of Allah (SWT) would be the first word in the Quran (The letter is not a complete word, but is. By taking the Alif away, neither of the two will be complete words and the name of Allah (swt) will be the first word) 2- Because it is written so much, it would be easier to have it without the Alif. 4. If we get flattered/ get the sense of pride, which yah should we remind ourselves of right away? The first ayah of Sratul Ftiah. We must remember whoever praises anyone anywhere in the world is ultimately praising Allah (swt) because All praise belong to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. 5. If Allah is the Owner of everyday, then why does He say The Owner of the Day of Judgment only in Sratul Ftiah? The real and complete mastery over everything no doubt belongs to Allah (swt) alone, even in this world. Yet, Allah (swt), Himself with His wisdom has granted a type of imperfect and temporary mastery to man as well. However, in possessing money or power, which has been given by way of trial, man has always been prone to get drunk with pride. The Ayah, The Owner of the Day of Judgment is a warning to man that there shall come a day when masters will no longer be masters, slaves will no longer be slaves, and when no one will own anything. 6. If someone raises the following objection against you, what would you say in response: If Muslims claim to be on Guidance (), why do they continuously ask for Guidance in Sratul Ftiah? In Arabic, Hidaayah has different meanings: 1. To show someone the path

2. To allow someone to stay on the path 3. To allow a person to go to the destination When we ask for Hidaayah, we ask Allah (SWT) to show us what we dont know and to keep us on what we do know until we get to our destination, Jannah, InshaaAllah. 7. Many Muslims object that Islam is an easy religion, therefore a teacher is not needed to learn the Qurn. If you are confronted with this objection, how would you respond to it in the light of Sratul Ftiah? Notice that in Surah Fatihah, Allah (swt) describes the Straight Path as the path of those whom You have bestowed Your favors upon and He did not just say the path of Quraan. So, we learn that we need to find people who can teach us Quraan. A book alone is not sufficient for the grooming of a man. No one has ever become a doctor, or an engineer, or even a cook merely by reading a book. Similarly, studying the Quraan and Hadith on ones own cannot, by itself, be sufficient for the spiritual education of a person. Such a study MUST be carried on under the guidance of a specialist or a genuine scholar before it can be useful. If a book was sufficient for the guidance of men, then why would Allah (swt), with His Divine Wisdom, send prophets and messengers with His Books?? 8. If men will get damsels (rs) in Jannah, what will women get? Why wont women have multiple men as a reward? Allah (swt) will reward everyone according to their interests and pure nature in the Hereafter. To understand why, understand this example: when you want to reward a grown up man for something, you will ponder about his interests, and accordingly, you will reward him. Same way if you want to reward a five-year-old child, you will look at his interests and reward him accordingly. You will not reward the man with a lollipop. Why? Because even if he appreciates what you have given, it is not in his nature and interest to be rewarded with such an item. On the other hand, by you giving the five-year-old child the lollipop, that will make his day. Why? Because it is in his nature to be attracted to such things. This same way, Allah (swt) will reward everyone in the Hereafter according to his/her pure nature and interest. Now, what is the nature of a man and what is the nature of a woman? If you ponder over it, it is in the nature of a man to be attracted to more than one woman and to be married to more than one woman. You might be thinking now, No, thats not true. Before making this baseless conclusion, lets go back into history, before Islam was introduced. Before Islam, it was a worldwide practice that a man would be married to multiple women without a limit. This was a practice in Sweden, in Greece, in China, in Portugal, and in many other countries. This was a worldwide practice! And I repeat, this is before Islam was introduced! When Islam came, it put discipline to this practice and put a limit to it because this practice was going out of control. Men were allowed to get married to unlimited amount of wives, and absolutely no one had a problem with it. Why? Because everyone knew that was in the nature of a man, therefore it became a worldwide practice. Now, keeping this

nature of man in mind, Allah (swt) will reward the men with multiple damsels in Jannah. Now, lets look at the nature of a woman. It is in the nature of a woman to not only be beautiful, but to be the most beautiful when compared to all her colleagues and peers. And you really see this everywhere. Look at Miss America. Look at the fashion shows and beauty contests. What are all these women doing? They are competing with one another in their beauty. Why? Because it is in the nature of a woman and of her interest to look the most beautiful. Keeping this nature of a woman in mind, Allah (swt) will reward the women accordingly. So, what will women get? They will be made the queens of all the Hurs (damsels). As soon as a woman will come back home after enjoying herself in Jannah, er husband will not be interested in anyone else but her, and she will have that honor and happiness to know that her beauty outshines that of all the others. Sayyidina Umme Salmah narrates that, I said, Oh Messenger of Allah , are the women of this world superios or the Hoors? He replied, The women f this world will have superiority over the Hurs just as the outer lining of a garment has superiority over the inner lining. This is what the women will get in Jannah, InshaaAllah, but remember, even though the men will have their Hurs, there will be no type of jealousy nor hatred there so it wont affect the women negatively at all. In fact, this is the way women will get their happiness; they weill be the most beautiful when compared to the Hurs. 9. Based on Surah Nzi`t, what are the two qualities that will lead a person to the Hellfire? 1. Transgression; going beyond the bounds of Shariah Islamic law. 2. Preferring the life of the dunya 10. Based on Surah Nzit, what are the two qualities that will lead a person to Jannah? 1. To fear standing in front of Allah (Swt) 2. Stopping the Nafs (innerself) from following desires 11. What are two lessons we learn from the beginning Ayahs of Srah Abasa? Lesson 1: Allah (SWT) protected all Prophets from sins, but sometimes they made some minor mistakes. However, they do not continue making those mistakes. Lesson 2: We should pay attention to sincere Muslims that want to learn and must prefer educating them over giving Dawah to Kuffaar that arent interested. 12. Shayn attacks every person by making him feel significant (pride). What have scholars recommended us to do so that we realize our reality? Scholars recommend that we should think about our reality while using the toilet. We should first remind ourselves of ayahs 18-19 of Surah Abasa in which Allah (SWT) says that He created us from a semen drop, something so filthy that when it is discharged, the person has to take a shower. We are made from that, but it didnt just end there. We are so filthy that after eating delicious smelling food, that same food

comes out as a filthy impure excrement. Why? Because the food was with US. That is how impure and filthy we are. It does not just end there though. After we pass away, our body is going to begin rotting. All the people will try their fastest to get our body buried because of the filthy stench it will emit. This is our reality. Our beginning, middle, and end is all filth, and that is what we are. We are complete filth. (InshaaAllah, by thinking about this every time you use the bathroom, the sense of pride will be removed) 13. Why will people run away from one another on the Day of Judgment? Give two reasons. 1. People will be asking for their rights from other people. Therefore, everyone will run away from everyone else with the fear that someone will demand for his/her right. 2. In this life, we do so many things that other people are not aware of. That day, we will be so ashamed that we will run away from everyone. 14. In Sratut Takwr, Allah describes the Day of Judgment as such a day When the female infant buried alive will be asked what sin she was killed for. Why will the girl be questioned and not the person guilty of the crime? Give two reasons. 1. We do so many injustices against weaker people; Allah (swt) is bringing it to our attention that on that day, the weakest of weakest will be given her rights. 2. Allah (SWT) will be so mad at the father, He will not even speak to him.
