Testing the Toshiba VPN Router before changing IPs on TAMS equipment

Suggestion: Its good practice to test the Toshiba VPN router first using your laptop,
before you change the IP address, subnet mask and default gateway on the any Toshiba equipment. This procedure will use CT as an example. Perform the following on your laptop: 1. Change the IP address, subnet mask and default gateway on your laptop to the IP address of the Scan console or Display console. The IP addresses are listed on the Toshiba VPN Router Installation Sheet (The paper that is in the Toshiba VPN Router box.) a. From the Desktop, right click on the My Network Places icon. b. Then select Properties c. At the Network Connections screen, right click Local Area Connection, the select Properties. d. At the Local Area Connection screen click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) the click on Properties. e. Select Use the following IP address. Change to the following: i. IP address: 172.17.X.Y (IP address of the scan console) ii. Subnet mask: 255.255.255.240 iii. Default gateway: 172.17.X.Y (IP address of the Toshiba VPN Router) f. Click on <OK> g. Click on <Close> to exit the Local Area Connection properties. h. Exit the Network Connections screen by click on the <X> in the top right corner.

Technical Bulletin 2. Verify you can ping from the laptop to the devices listed in the VPN order form or the Router Installation list. a. On the laptop, click on Start run b. In the run box type cmd and click OK. Command Prompt will open. c. Example: Type ping 192.168.0.200 (This is the IP address for VITREA1). This is an example. Look on the VPN Order Form or the Router Installation Sheet for IP addresses pertaining to your site. d. You should get a reply from the IP address. Do this for all of the devices listed. You should get a reply from each device. e. If you are able to ping all of the devices, then change the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway on the scan and display console. Make sure you add sp and the IP address to the host table on the scan and display console. f. You can use TB-IV-10001 for PC Based systems and TB-IV-10002 for UNIX Based systems for setting-up the scan and display console.
