ESCAPE FROM COLDITZ Speed Die and Sharing the German Ho !e R "e!

These House Rules are designed to speed up the number of escapes, and to share the responsibility of playing the German between each player. a' E(er%one ta)e! t rn! to p"a% the German Each player chooses one nation of Escape Officers, as normal, but the role of the German is shared. For example, in a two player game, if !layer " chooses to play as the "merican Escape Officer, and !layer # plays the #ritish Escape Officer, the game turns will loo$ li$e this% !layer " &rolls dice as the "merican Escape officer' !layer # &rolls dice as the German' !layer # &rolls dice as the #ritish Escape officer' !layer " &rolls dice as the German &...and so on' (# )f this *ariant is used, the Germans ha*e an ad*antage in that they mo*e after each Escape Officer. This ad*antage is mitigated by the following rules, especially b' and d'. (#+ )f this *ariant is used, ) recommend that the players use blac$ dice for the Germans and white dice for the Escape Officers. "t the end of each Escape Officer,s turn, all the dice can then be passed on from the acti*e player to the next player, who will then remember to roll the blac$ dice first as the German. *' The n m*er o+ German g ard! i! ,' On"% one German g ard ,an te"eport per t rn The German rolls two dice and mo*es the guard pieces as normal &drawing 3ecurity cards on /, 0 or 44, rolling again on doubles, etc.'. #ut only one guard per turn may only be posted from the barrac$s to a blac$ spot &or mo*ed from a blac$ spot to barrac$s'. This always at a cost of 4 mo*ement point. d' E!,ape O++i,er! ro"" an e-tra die Each Escape officer rolls three dice &/d1' while the German player rolls two dice &+d1'. This *ariant also re5uires the following changes%

4' )f the Escape Officer rolls doubles &or trebles', the result is added and the two &or three' dice are rolled again. +' )f the Escape Officer rolls doubles &or trebles', one of his 6 her pieces in 3olitary confinement is allowed to mo*e from the cells. /' )f the Escape Officer rolls /, 0 or 44 there is no special result. To draw Opportunity cards see f' below. e' The Appe" .one i! a +ree p"a,ement area Escape Officer pieces can be placed on any space in the "ppel 7one &i.e. the white area in the centre of 8oldit7 8astle'. !ieces placed here are free from arrest. Escape Officer pieces may lea*e the "ppel 7one freely from any point, and mo*ement points are only spent from the fist space outside the "ppel 7one. (# ) also recommend that the "ppel card be remo*ed from the 3ecurity dec$. This will speed up the game somewhat. This disad*antage for the German can be off set by allowing the German to search any named room using a 3earch card. +' E!,ape /it i! traded +or Opport nit% ,ard! The Escape 9it card is not used. )nstead, an Opportunity card is drawn when two Escape Officer pieces of the same colour are in the same Escape 9it room, or two Escape Officer pieces of the same colour are in two different Escape 9it rooms &i.e. any room which depicts a piece of Escape 9it% 8ompass, :isguise,:ocuments or Food, rather than rooms which depict Escape E5uipment% 9ey, Rope, !ass or ;ire cutters'. (# )f this *ariant is used, the Escape 9it cards can be remo*ed from the Opportunity dec$.
