This is scan data and CAD model of a small aluminum aircraft part.
Select Auto Create Datums/Features, and Datums or features are created on the Test click Apply. object after a process called Correspondence assigns each scan point to a CAD face. Select Datum/Feature Alignment. Create pairs of datum planes A, B and C. Datum planes are used to align the scan data to the CAD model, simulating the placement of a physical part in a fixture for a bench inspection. Geomagics easy GD&T tools allow for quick creation of complex callouts on the CAD model. Multiple callouts can be located on a single view. After defining the GD&T callouts on CAD, the scan data will be analyzed and resulting pass/fail criteria will be reported.
Select Create GD&T Callouts. Create a Flatness callout on the top face, as shown below left, with tolerance of .010. Create a Position callout through the large hole, with references of datums B and C, and tolerances of .020. If desired, create Perpendicularity callout as shown.

Select Evaluate GD&T Callouts, and click Apply. Results should match the above image!
The entire scan data set is analyzed and all GD&T callouts are evaluated. The tolerance is displayed along with the resulting deviation from nominal. This command lets you can view and edit the correspondence of points to the various CAD faces, which can help troubleshoot potential problems in the assignment of data points. In the illustration below, the points associated with a particular datum, or GD&T dimensions, are visible. If necessary, you can remove points from the correspondence.
[Optional] Select Correspondence from the Tools menu. Toggle off Reference display and show how each point is assigned to a corresponding CAD face. Click the GD&T Callouts button to only show the points used for each type of callout. Click OK to exit.
Select 3D Compare. Set Critical range to +/- .020 Set Nominal range to +/- .005 Click Apply and OK to exit.
This command measures the deviation of the scan data to the nominal CAD model. Deviations will be displayed as colors, hence green would represent any areas within the nominal tolerance, and dark red or blue areas represent regions outside the tolerance.
Select Create Annotations from the Like pick points on a CMM, specific points of the Result menu and create several around the model can be isolated for analysis. model. Click OK to exit.

Cross sections have to be created in order to extract radial, angular, and linear dimensions. Align to YZ Plane, change position Sections can be defined in any direction. This to pass plane through one of the two example takes a section through both the scan flanges, and click Compute and then data and the CAD model at the same time to Next. look for deviations. Align to XZ Plane, change position to pass plane through the base, and click Compute.
Click OK to exit. Select Create 2D Dimensions. Toggle on Use Smart Circle and create a radius dimension at top of flange, as shown below left. Use Pincers Outer to create the vertical dimension shown. Demonstrate construction dimensions by creating intersection points at the corners of the base section, as shown below right. Click OK to exit. Section-based dimensioning allows for the creation 2D drawing-like layouts. A new feature in Geomagic, called Smart Radius, will intelligently fit a radius to only the curved portion of any selected region. A caliper-like feature, called Pincers, allows for the measurement of absolute width of any two regions of interest.
A report with views of all previously created views and operations is automatically generated. Different formats are available, including PDF, HTML, Excel, and Word. These reports can be customized.
