This year the staff will conduct parent information evenings rather than posting home information packs which has happened in the past. It is important to acknowledge the time the staff have put into preparing the information. I would urge you to attend the information sessions as they provide a valuable overview of the learning program and the expectation the teacher will have of your child this year. It is also an opportunity to ask questions and clarify any issues.
Our school chaplain, Mrs Campbell, with parents after the assembly.
Our School Values Respect Tolerance Self Discipline Courtesy Cooperation Confidence
At Wanneroo we believe a safe and inclusive learning environment is critical in order for your child to succeed. A key initiative we have implemented to achieve such an environment is the provision of a chaplaincy program. We are fortunate to have Mrs Carolyn Campbell as our chaplain who provides support for students and their families. If you wish to access the chaplaincy service you are welcome to leave a message for Mrs Campbell through the office on 9306 0500 or email her at Carolyn.Campbell@education.wa.edu.au . Involvement in the chaplaincy program is voluntary. If you do not want your child involved please notify me in writing. You are also welcome to contact me if you would like clarification of how the program is conducted in our school. A key requirement of being an Independent Public School is to have a School Board with parent, staff and community representation. The board has a significant role in shaping the future of the school and ensuring Wanneroo Primary continues to be a school that is focused on Growing Together. Operational matters or issues relating specifically to your family or child should be discussed with your childs class teacher or me as the principal. However, if you have ideas that relate to the whole school I would encourage you to share it with a member of the School Board who can then take it to the board for discussion. The parent members on the School Board are Silvana Oxenbridge, Natalie Coopes and Deb Festa. Unfortunately Anita Plant who was the P&C representative has now left the school. The board would like to thank Anita for her contribution to the board. A new P&C representative will be elected at the Annual General Meeting. shared information about water safety. The strong message they conveyed was the importance of supervision by parents and that drowning occurs quickly and silently. Their performance was particularly meritorious with less than two weeks to prepare as it was the first assembly for the year. Due to swimming lessons this term, our next class assembly will not be conducted until Friday 14 March by Mrs Lilburnes Room 15, Year 4/5 class. Parents, grandparents and friends are welcome to join us in the covered assembly area followed by tea and coffee with the school chaplain.
Congratulations

Support-A-Reader Program
The Support-A-Reader is a highly valued program at our school and is set in place to encourage fluency and love of reading in reluctant readers. We are desperately looking for volunteers to join us. Any parents, grandparents and interested people from the community are welcome. Please contact us on 9306 0500 if you are able to assist.
Bike Safety
It has been brought to our notice that some of our students are riding their bikes in a hazardous manner on the footpaths surrounding the school. Would you please discuss with your child that if they ride a bike they need to show courtesy and respect and ensure pedestrians have right of way on the paths. It is important that our families and young children are able to walk to school in the knowledge that they are safe and not at risk from bike riders.

Parking
Important information is coming home this week with a family representative outlining the procedures for parking around the school. As is the case in all schools parking can be an issue and it requires everyone to demonstrate courtesy and consideration to others. In particular, it is important not to obstruct other cars by parking in the kiss and drive or parking on the verges as it has the potential to cause a serious accident or injury to a student. Please note the carpark on Church Street is strictly only for the use of parents from kindergarten and pre-primary. Parking or the dropping off of children is not permitted in staff car parks.
Internet Safety
Social media sites are powerful means of communicating especially with todays lifestyle. However, there are inherent dangers with the digital footprint from which there is no going back. It is of concern that the school has been made aware of the inappropriate use of social media by some of our students which could have had serious consequences. It is critical as a parent you monitor how your child is using social media and you make your child aware of the implications if it is used inappropriately. Is your child using social media including Kik which could be putting them at risk of internet predators if not supervised adequately? Last week we were made aware of a student who was the victim of identity theft whereby someone set up an account in her name and then purported to be her while chatting to others. What is written digitally today could have serious consequences in the future especially when inappropriate language and images are used.

Chaplains Chat
When things go wrong, as they often do, how do you cope? Do you see yourself defeated? Sometimes I do. I was challenged recently to think about a game of basketball. When you are playing a game and your team scores a goal, it's fantastic! You are on top of the world. But when the other team scores it can be disappointing. The scores can change all through the game but the winner is undecided until the final siren. Life is a bit like a game of basketball. Sometimes things are fantastic but sometimes we are disappointed. I think the challenge for all of us is to play the game to the best of our ability regardless of who is scoring points. Try focussing on the bigger picture when you are not on the winning team and celebrate the goals you score along the way. If you would like to contact me you can email carolyn.campbell@education.wa.edu.au or phone the office and leave a message. Please feel free to join me at the canteen for a cuppa after each Friday assembly. Breakfast Club Breakfast club is in need of donations of Milo. Please leave tins with me or they can be left at the office. Thank you Carolyn Campbell YouthCARE School Chaplain Monday, Wednesday, Friday
