SUPER SCIENCE
BY THOMAS BEASLEYEADES, LUCY BOURNE & ISABELLE HARMAN

RED NOSES AT THE READY!

BY SASHA PRICE
On the 15th March, it was time to get the red noses on and have a great time raising money for Comic Relief! We all came in red clothes and some of the Year 5 girls painted peoples nails, sprayed hair, did tattoos and face paint and guess the name of the baby. We also did some fun activities in assembly and it was teachers against school councillors!! The competitions included how many clothes can you fit on as fast as you can, then ring the bell? Who can eat the most dry crackers? Can you fit loads of Maltesers in your mouth then say fluffy bunny? It was so funny! Sebastian Armstrong even entertained everyone with his act juggling red noses! All the money raised for Comic Relief will go to help people who are not as lucky as us, like giving people in Africa a better life, clean water and houses.

Bickerton pupils have been getting down to lots of super science! All the classrooms have new science areas where we can try things out and do experiments and we had lots of fun during our science week! Class 5 had competitions while Class 4 had separated materials and Class 1 made lava lamps. Class 2 met Discovery Dog and investigated the best materials for cleaning up a messy puddle! In Class 3, they were making popping rockets, milk patterns and finding the best bag. We love Science at Bickerton!

The money can prevent them from getting malaria, and help them to live a longer life. If you watched it on the telly, you could see all the daring challenges normal people and celebrities did like Jessie Jay shaving off her hair! But its a great cause so they knew they had made the right decision and we are glad that we at Bickerton helped too!

BICKERTON GETS BUILDING

BY ZOE VAUGHAN
We all got busy building when we had a Building and Making Day at school. It was the school councils idea to have a special theme day. They got ideas from everyone and then voted for the best and the winner was Building and Making Day Each class did a different challenge. Class 4 did Saving the Easter Bunny the Easter bunny got bunny-napped and we had to try and rescue him by building a tower so we could see over the trees. We could use construction, paper, tape and straws. It was very hard, but lots of fun. Joes tower was the strongest because even Mr Rich could stand on it! Gemma, Tom and Zoes tower was the tallest because it went up to the roof. Class 2 made a whole model city, while Class 5 made towers using only newspaper and masking tape. Class 3 made giant burgers and pizzas to go with their literacy work. Class 1 had fun building too!

Mrs B said The best thing about Building and Making Day was that it gave everyone the chance to work well together to achieve something. Everyone was very proud of themselves! Bickerton Builders, can we fix it? Yes we can!

EPIC YOUNG VOICES!

BY SASHA PRICE & ZOE VAUGHAN
Some children from Year 4, 5 and 6 went on a wonderful trip to perform at the Young Voices concert at the Manchester arena. They had been practising and practising for a few months and it took a while to learn all the songs and dance moves. At the concert, they performed with thousands of other children and some special acts. We have asked a few people for their opinions about it: Mrs Boothby went for the very first time and she said I thought it was amazing!! A once in a life time opportunity and a great atmosphere! The practice in the afternoon was hard work, but totally worth it because then, we got to sing with loads of other people and schools. The best thing was when they turned the lights of and all you could see was the torches. Magic! We also asked Sashas mum Elizabeth Price some questions:

He is now getting better (hooray!) and we have been sending cards and jokes to help him to get better. We have sent him a video too, saying jokes. Mrs B filled two display boards of photos of his time at Bickerton and we sent that to him too. In his rugby club (Whitchurch) where Tom Beasley-Eades goes, they raised money and bought him an iPad. Brook has got a website called www.caringbridge.org/ beingthereforBrookie where you can put loads of posts and even famous people have put their comments and messages on too. COOL CADBURY WORLD

BY ZOE VAUGHAN Class 3 and 4 went on a fantastic trip to Cadbury world. First off all we went in the Aztec jungle and there were models of people that were sort of acting it out but staying still. We saw some real people who were talking about their boat and they said they were holding sheep poo, but really they were holding coca beans! We went past and smelt it. After that, we went through a room and watched a film. In the film they were talking about chocolate and when smoke came up on the screen, out of our seat came smoke and it wobbled! We walked all around the factory and watched how chocolate was made. Then we had lunch but we didnt have a lot of time to eat because we needed to go to The Essence and watch to find out how chocolate was discovered. Then we went in another room and got a cup of chocolate and got a choice of toppings there were: marshmallows, white chocolate buttons, and wine gums, rice krispies and last of all jelly babies. We went in an education room and watched a movie about how cocoa beans travel to the UK.

The lady said who wants to ask a question? Mr Rich put his hand up he said: why do some of the signs say Cadburys world and some say Cadbury world? and the lady said I dont know because the boss says it is Cadbury world! Thank you Miss Gittins and Class 3 for letting us come! We had a great day learning about chocolate. (I am very jealous! Take me with you next time!!! Editor)

Everybody had permission to throw lots of snowballs and Mr Richardson and all of class 4 had a huge snowball fight with everyone joining in! Everyone made a lot of forts too! But in the end Mr Rich said that the snowballs were getting too hard like compacted ice. We asked some people about what they thought about the snow. Mr Richardson said I loved it! It made the school look like a Christmas card. But I did get fed up of falling over and having to wear silly boots! I hated driving in the snow as some people were so silly but I loved playing football and the snow ball fights. BICKERTONS OLYMPIC HERO

This amazing girl won a gold medal in rowing for the womens four and a bronze for the womens eight in the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney Only aged 18, this great success was from a Bickerton pupil because Lucy came here! We asked her how she felt about winning and she said It was amazing, the best feeling in the world, especially when they played the national anthem! We asked her if she had any advice for us and she said Keep going and only listen to the positive comments you get. I was shocking at PE when I was at school! It was very exciting to meet her. Sasha said It was really cool seeing Lucy Burgess and her medals and I was amazed she used to come to this school! Mrs Tedham added I was really thrilled that someone from Bickerton has been in the youth Olympics and it is really special that she came back to share the news Go Lucy! Well look out for you in the next Olympics!

CLASS 4S DELIGHTFUL DANCE

BY ZOE VAUGHAN Class 4 took part in a dance festival on Wednesday 13th March and Thursday 14th March at Bishop Heber. They based it on South Africa because of our link activities with Tiger Kloof school this year. It was a wonderful dance called Safari and we had learnt it with Mrs Parsons. We performed it wearing coloured T-shirts and lots of other schools from the area took part. On the first night they called us Tushingham but luckily the next night Mrs Parsons reminded her that we were Bickerton and they got it right! On Thursday, we watched all the dances and Tom thought that the chocolate one was the best and Sasha and I thought the surfing in the UK dance was the best! At the start of the whole dance, every school came on the stage with the banner and ours was the best because it had lights on it from Young Voices. Mrs Parsons has also worked on a version of the dance with the other classes in the school. She said The children performed the dance beautifully with no mistakes and we all had a great time! Thanks to Mrs Chesworth and Mr Richardson for coming along to help too.
