Masconomet Regional Middle School, Boxford, MA Fall 2013 Secondary Practicum Planned and taught with history and English teachers an 8th grade multidisciplinary research and writing unit on objective reading and news writing. Through the unit, students learned the organizational structure of information in an inverted pyramidstyle newspaper article, recognized news criteria, identified examples of objective writing and author purpose and developed a newspaper article draft about an Islamic artifact discovery using a graphic organizer. Wrote and executed a grade-wide research and information literacy survey to inform professional practice and student learning and serve as the trial run for annual pre- and post-school library assessments throughout the district. Evaluated and analyzed the school library nonfiction collection, specifically weeding and developing the brain science and memory materials to best serve an upcoming research project using The Giver by Lois Lowry. Developed an interactive resource website of fiction and nonfiction materials and community resources about the cultures and traditions of Spanish-speaking countries, especially written by Hispanic authors. The Weebly website serves the extra credit Se Motivado initiative for students enrolled in Spanish, encouraging students to independently support their own learning. The Pike School, Independent Pre-K to Gr. 9 School, Andover, MA Fall 2012 to Present Library Assistant Prepared original instruction and assessment for grades from Pre-K to 5 with a focus on 21st century information skills, provided substitute instruction using specific student learning objectives when needed.
