Princess Cruises A Brief History of a Legendary Cruise Line

It all began in 1965 with a single ship cruising in Mexico. Today, Princess Cruises is one of the worlds largest and best-known cruise lines. Our fleet of ships sails to all seven continents. Princess was catapulted to prominence in 1977, when it became the seagoing star of The Love Boat. The long-running television series introduced millions of viewers to the still-new concept of vacationing have at sea. Princess Cruises and our famous Seawitch logo remained synonymous with cruising ever since. The Princess Fleet is among the most innovative at sea, providing a cruise experience like no other. All Princess ships feature a revolutionary ship design that offers passengers all the onboard activities found on large vessels, while providing an intimate ambience typically found on smaller ships including more balcony staterooms than any other cruise line. Princess began emphasizing personal choice and a flexible onboard atmosphere for its passengers in the 1990s and today that groundbreaking concept is evident on every cruise. Most notably, only Princess offers an array of dining choices where passengers can enjoy world-class cuisine when, where and with whom they want at a variety of elegant, casual and specialty dining venues. With hundreds of unique itineraries sailing to more than 300 incredible destinations, Princess has a well-deserved reputation as a leader in worldwide cruising. SAFETY INFORMATION

Our number one priority at Princess Cruises is the safety and well-being of our passengers and crew. Therefore, we ask that you read and review the following procedures. If you have any questions about these procedures, please ask your stateroom steward or any of the ships Officers. Prior to sailing, all passengers must attend a Passenger Muster Drill. This drill is a requirement of International Maritime Law.

SECURITY

Fire is one of the worst hazards at sea. Please do not throw lighted cigarette ends, cigars or matches over the ships side as these may be drawn into a ships side opening and cause a fire. Please use the ashtrays provided throughout the ship to properly extinguish cigarettes. Never smoke in bed. If you discover a fire, immediately sound the alarm by activating one of the red manual fire alarms located throughout the ship.
GENERAL EMERGENCY SIGNAL AND PROCEDURES

Ship Tours Visiting the Crew Area Visitors Crime Prevention & Response Guide
PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT

The General Emergency Signal is used to call passengers to their Muster Station. A Muster Station is a place of safety where passengers assemble in an emergency. Your Muster Station is marked on the Safety Notice which you will find on the back of your stateroom door. The General Emergency Signal consists of seven short blasts followed by one long blast on the ships whistle and alarms. Upon hearing this signal, whether the ship is at sea or in port, go quickly and quietly to your stateroom and collect your life jacket, warm clothing, head covering, good footwear and any medication that you may require. Then proceed to your Muster Station. Do not use the elevators, as a power failure may occur and you may be trapped. Do not put on your life jacket until you have reached your Muster Station. To avoid accidents, please do not allow the life jacket ties to trail on the floor. If your nearest exit is blocked, use the alternative exit shown on the plan near your stateroom door. When you reach your Muster Station, please remain quiet and calm so that you may hear any instructions which will be broadcast over the loudspeaker system or given by the Officers in the room.

Security
We take your safety and security very seriously. In order to prevent unauthorized persons from boarding the ship, we must maintain an accurate ship security access system. Please have your cruise card, which is also your ID card and stateroom key, ready to show security staff at the gangways and for registering in the ships security system. All personnel wishing to board or enter a restricted area with or without carry-on items, will undergo screening. Do not accept any items if the contents or donors are unknown to you.

7. Never leave your children unattended. 8. Raised thresholds are common on ships, particularly at fireproof doors, exterior doors and/or adjacent to bathroom facilities, including the bathroom in your stateroom. Please take care when walking through all such locations, as there are high steps and raised thresholds throughout the ship. 9. The elevators are automatic and therefore unattended. Never place hands between closing elevator doors. Do not smoke in the elevator. 10. Children under 12 are not permitted to use the elevators unless accompanied by an adult. 11. Many doors are fitted with self-closing devices. Please retain a hold on doors as you pass through them. 12. Do not stand on chairs or stools for any reason. 13. Under no circumstances are passengers allowed to enter crew living or working areas, even if invited by a member of the ships staff. Some areas of the ship, such as the Galley are occasionally open for inspection on particular escorted tours. Please refer to the Princess Patter for details. 14. It is very dangerous for anyone to sit or stand on the ships side rails on the open decks or stateroom balconies. Please dont allow children to do so, even if youre holding them. 15. The area around swimming pools and spas may be slippery due to usage by fellow passengers. Please take particular care in these locations. 16. When moving about your stateroom at night please remember to switch on a light to avoid trip hazards. 17. Remember to keep a firm hold on all exterior doors when going through them, as the ships movement causes a breeze across the open decks, and may cause the door to swing unexpectedly.

If you are infirm and feel that you will need assistance to reach your Muster Station, please notify your stateroom steward or the Front Desk as soon as possible, so that necessary arrangements can be made.
LIFE JACKETS

WARNING: The following products contain or are chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer: diesel engine exhaust, tobacco smoke, and silica. WARNING: The following product contains or is a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm: carbon monoxide. WARNING: Water Sprinkler Heads are located in the ceiling of each cabin. Please do not tamper with, hang or attach anything onto this Safety Equipment as it will cause the head to activate, resulting in damage to your belongings and stateroom contents. Princess Cruises will not responsible for property damaged in this way.
TENDER PRECAUTIONS

Certain areas of the ship are available for tour. Please consult the Princess Patter. However, tours of the ships bridge and engine rooms are not available. While we understand and appreciate passengers interest, these are vital working areas of the ship.
VISITING THE CREW AREA

Your life jackets are stowed in your stateroom. Special life jackets are provided for children and persons weighing less than 70 lbs (32 kgs). If you have not already been issued these jackets, please ask your stateroom steward to supply them. There are also spare life jackets stowed in lockers on deck that will be issued to you in your Muster Station by crew members, if you are prevented from returning to your stateroom in an emergency.
MAN OVERBOARD

The crew areas are strictly off-limits to our passengers. Please refrain from entering these areas, even if a crew member should issue an invitation.
VISITORS

If you see anyone fall overboard, raise the alarm by shouting MAN OVERBOARD and immediately throw a life buoy (or anything else that will float) over the side to mark the spot. Then tell a member of the ships company what you have seen.
SUGGESTIONS FOR ACCIDENT PREVENTION

Due to security concerns, we regret that visitors to the ship are not permitted, unless you have pre-registered guests (on embarkation day only) via the Bon Voyage Experience program.*

Kindly review the following: 1. Please be careful when moving around the ship, as the natural motion of the ship may cause you to become unsteady or slip. 2. Always hold the handrails when going up or down stairs, or while moving about the ship in bad weather. 3. Never hold the frames of open doors, as the ships motion may cause the door to close on your hands or fingers. 4. Please take care when entering and leaving raised seating areas, particularly in the restaurants, especially when the lighting is reduced. 5. Open decks are slippery when wet, as a result of inclement weather or the daily routine cleaning of the ship. Always use caution when walking in these areas and rubber-soled shoes are suggested. 6. Rubber-soled shoes should also be used at all times when the ship is pitching and rolling and are also recommended for all shore excursions.

At some ports of call it is necessary to disembark the vessel via ships tender. Please follow all instructions from the Coxswain, who is in command of the tender. For safetys sake, stay seated unless instructed otherwise, and keep your arms off the tenders sides. No smoking is permitted in the ships tender.

*Bon Voyage Experience program is not available on all vessels and itineraries.

We recommend these suggestions always be kept in mind, as compliance with them is essential for your safety and well-being.

jurisdiction in all of these circumstances. Each of the countries visited, as well as the ships country of registry (Bermuda), may also assert jurisdiction and impose additional reporting requirements. For missing persons or serious criminal incidents that occur within countries visited or their territorial waters, and for incidents within U.S. states, you may independently contact local law enforcement authorities. You may also contact the U.S. FBI or U.S. Coast Guard for incidents that arise at any time during the voyage. Princess Cruises encourages all passengers to learn as much as you can about the local laws and customs of the places you will visit. Good resources are your library, your travel agent, and the embassies, consulates or tourist bureaus of the countries you will visit. In addition, keep track of what is being reported in the media about recent developments in those countries. Contact information for the FBI, U.S. Coast Guard and the National Sexual Assault Hotline is listed below. Locations of U.S. Embassies or Consulates in the ports visited and contact information for local law enforcement in these ports is listed on the front page of the

Crime Prevention and Response Guide

Princess Cruises has zero tolerance for crime on board its ships. This guide is designed to offer information to all passengers on proper response procedures and available law enforcement processes in the event that an incident occurs. Passengers should immediately report missing persons and criminal activity to ships personnel so appropriate action may be taken to ensure the safety and security of all persons on board. Timely reporting of an incident is also imperative so that necessary law enforcement notifications can be made as expeditiously as possible. Incidents may be reported at any time by dialing the Pursers Desk. Missing persons or criminal activity may also be reported to the on board Security Department by dialing the Front Desk. Any situations requiring medical assistance can be reported to the Medical Department at any time by dialing 911 or through the Front Desk. Princess Cruises reports all missing persons and serious criminal incidents such as homicide, suspicious death, kidnapping, assault with serious bodily injury, sexual assaults as defined by existing laws, firing or tampering with the vessel, or theft of money or property in excess of $10,000 to appropriate law enforcement authorities. In addition to our own reporting policies and other legal requirements, on international voyages that embark or disembark in the United States, U.S. federal law requires Princess Cruises to report missing U.S. nationals and the above felonies to the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) by telephone as soon as possible, to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security electronically, and to the U.S. Coast Guard in writing. These U.S. requirements apply to all such incidents that occur on board in U.S. territorial waters, or at sea or in another countrys territorial waters if the individuals involved are U.S. nationals. The U.S. FBI may assert criminal

Protecting the Environment

Princess makes its living on the worlds oceans. We are therefore committed to high standards of excellence and responsibility in preserving our marine environment. Our environmental programs have been hailed among the most comprehensive programs of environmental practices and policies ever developed by a cruise line. We work closely with the regulatory and enforcement organizations that govern the cruise industrys environmental practices, to ensure we meet the stringent regulations established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). These regulations are overseen by the U.S. Coast Guard, which is tasked with enforcing international and U.S. environmental laws. We are proud that in most cases our programs go far beyond what is required by law. We are continuously striving to identify ways in which we can raise the level of our environmental standards. To assist us in meeting our environmental goals, an Environmental Hotline has been established. The purpose of this service is to provide a mechanism for reporting any concerns you may have regarding our environmental practices, policies or events. Environmental Compliance staff ashore will review the messages and address them appropriately. There is no cost for this call which can be made from your stateroom phone by dialing 25326 (C.L.E.A.N.). Join us in our quest for responsible stewardship of the worlds oceans.
BATTERIES

Your stateroom steward draws the blinds and sets the temperature controls at midpoint when you are not in your stateroom. This keeps the stateroom at a comfortable temperature while saving energy. Please feel free to readjust the temperature and the blinds on your return. Simply inform your steward if you prefer a different procedure to be followed. Similar to many hotels ashore, to indicate your wish to re-use your bathroom towels, simply place them on the rack/rail/hook in your bathroom. Towels left on the floor or in the bath/shower will be replaced by your steward.
FRUIT, FOOD & PLANT QUARANTINE

No fruits, plants, seeds or food from the ship are allowed ashore in the United States or Canada and many other countries around the world.

DRUG & SUNDRIES STORE

During your cruise, regardless of which Princess ship you choose, you will meet staff who provide you with excellent service. Crew members often rotate to different vessels within the Princess fleet which helps to maintain our high standards on every ship. These dedicated workers reflect our philosophy that all crew on all ships are but one family who share in our success. To simplify the tipping process for our passengers, a discretionary gratuity of $12 per person for mini-suites and suites, and $11.50 per passenger in all other staterooms per day (including children) will be automatically added to your shipboard account on a daily basis. This gratuity will be shared amongst those staff who help provide and support your cruise experience, including all waitstaff, stateroom stewards, buffet stewards, and housekeeping staff across the fleet. A 15% gratuity is added to bar charges and dining room wine accounts. This is shared amongst the beverage staff and their support staff. We know you will find these services onboard exemplary. Casino dealers and Lotus Spa personnel do not share in the Hotel and Dining charge as not all passengers utilize their services.

Capturing the special moments on your cruise is a snap. Our team of professional photographers offers a variety of services, from film developing to an array of digital services including personal digital accounts and photo quality printing from all digital media. The shop on deck 7 stocks the latest digital cameras and a wide range of photo accessories. Our photographers attend many ship functions; their photographs can be purchased in the Photo Gallery and charged to your shipboard account. Check the Princess Patter for operating hours.
PRINCESS CRUISES FINE ARTS*

Our convenience store is fully stocked with any item that you might need during your trip including sunscreen, sunglasses and even bestselling book titles. The most important sundries can be purchased from the Boutique or at the Front Desk when the Boutique is closed. Please contact the Medical Center if a condition or symptoms persist. Please use caution on the open decks and remember to use sunscreen. Its easy to underestimate the effect of exposure on your skin.
FLOWERS FOR EVERY OCCASION

Onboard we offer an extensive fine art gallery. The gallery is staffed by professional art consultants who can assist you in choosing artwork for purchase. Our consultants possess an extensive knowledge of art and art history and are eager to share their expertise. All of the artwork in our gallery is available for purchase in the art auctions during the cruise. Check the Princess Patter for times and locations. Art purchases are duty-free in the United States and are shipped directly to your home, freeing you from the worry of transporting your art. We also offer professional framing to enhance your selection.

To make your cruise even more memorable, our professional florists will attend to all your flower needs.
