Analysis The relationship between an object's mass m, its acceleration a, and the applied force F is F = ma.

A net force is required for an object to have acceleration, as stated in Newtons second law of motion. In this experiment, we discovered that if a net force is applied in an object, the object will accelerate in the direction of the net force. In order to have higher acceleration, you also need a bigger force that makes the acceleration of the object is also directly proportional to the net force but inversely proportional to its mass. In this experiment, we verified the relationship between an objects acceleration and net force, and between its acceleration and mass. These were the apparatus that we have used:

Based on the results gathered from our first experiment, the acceleration of the cart is directly proportional to the total hanging weight. And in effect, the acceleration increases as the hanging mass increases. With the force of gravity at constant rate, the force pulling on the cart increases as the weight increases. It is due to the proportional pull on the hanging mass as it increases in weight, and by Newtons 2nd Law, it is also expected that acceleration will increase proportionally. Though the percentage error is high, we were still able to show that the acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the force applied on it, and in the experiment, the force is the hanging mass that was attached to the cart. In our second experiment based on the results we gathered, the acceleration of the cart is indirectly proportional to its mass. In F/M = A, if we increase the mass, we also have to increase the net force in order to achieve the same value for acceleration. However, considering the surface frictionless, still, the carts mass minimizes the objects acceleration. In the actual world, we need a greater force to move a heavy weight to maintain the rate of velocity. A lighter object accelerates faster than a heavier object. In the last experiment It is shown that as the mass of the cart increases because of the added weight, the force that it carries also increases. Acceleration also increases as the mass increases, and they are all inversely proportional to time, as they increase, the time that cart traveled decreases. All throughout the experiment, we have big percentage errors. And we have notice that this may be the possible reasons. Possible sources of error in the experiment include the slight discrepancy observed in placing the cart in a way that the sensor in the photogate lights up just before release, for it ensures accuracy that

the object started to move from zero initial velocity. There is also the wrong placement of the photogate, causing the displacement to differ. Also, the super pulley might not be fully calibrated in a way that the string passes through the wheel, which might also make the string not in level with the horizontal, causing discrepancies in the acceleration. These were the graph of the experiment that we have conducted: Constant Mass, Changing Net Force

As we can see, the acceleration of the cart is directly proportional to the total hanging mass. It shows that as acceleration increases as the hanging mass increases.

The graph shows that the acceleration of the cart is indirectly proportional to its mass.

Conclusion After we conducted the experiment, it has been concluded that the relationship between the acceleration of the cart and the net force applied into it is directly proportional. Every ratio of net force and acceleration is nearly constant which proves the direct proportionality relationship claim. I also conclude that the relationship between the carts mass and acceleration is indirectly proportional. Every product of M & A is nearly constant which proves the indirect proportionality relationship claim. To generalize, we concluded that force is directly proportional to the acceleration but inversely proportional to the mass. As acceleration increases, there must have been greater force applied or less mass was being moved. However when acceleration decreases, net force acting is less or there is a heavy mass being moved. I have learned the equation F=ma through Newtons Second Law of Motion. The results we have gathered have a high percentage error, but the general trend as shown in the graphs show the direct relationship between force and acceleration, as well as the inverse relationship between the acceleration and mass. Gravity plays a big role in determining the acceleration of horizontally-oriented objects when acted upon by some force whose ultimate source is pulled by gravity as well. Therefore I conclude that learning the Newtons Second Law of Motion can really help us engineering students in engaging different problems in our field of study, especially the force and the acceleration have a big impact on it.
