THE TALES BEHIND THE SALES

Fortunately, the staff of
Homestead at Maplewood
recognizes the key to a happy
home isnt some secret for-
mula devised in a strategy
meeting its in the memo-
ries, relationships and inter-
ests that each resident brings
along when they move in.
You dont come here and
conform to us, explains Dana
Rossbach, housing coordina-
tor at Homestead. You come
here and we conform to you.
The goal at Homestead,
according to Rossbach, is to
allow residents to establish
their own rhythms and pref-
erences at the Maplewood
campus. That way, the living
space reflects the people who
live there, and not some cor-
porate idea of home.
Our honest focus is
to make this your home,
Rossbach says. Its not a
home-like setting this is
home.
Comforts of home
Homestead residents can
select the space that suits
them best from a selection
studios, one and two-bed-
room apartments, and while
Homestead allows residents
the flexibility and comfort
theyre used to in a home
setting, it also comes with a
few additional advantages.
Residents receive housekeep-
ing and laundry services and
the campus features on-site
amenities like a salon and
a dining center that serves
meals restaurant style.
On top of that, residents
can participate in regular
activities, outings, Bible stud-
ies and non-denominational
church services. And if resi-
dents are looking for a ser-
vice or activity not already
offered, they can raise the
subject at one of the monthly
community meetings with
staff.
In fact, resident input at
community meetings recently
launched a new range of exer-
cise activities at Homestead
at Maplewood with options
for every range of fitness and
mobility. Many residents par-
ticipate in a walking program
that tracks their mileage
with celebrations for destina-
tions reached, while others
participate in an advanced
exercise program featuring
weights and bands. Theres
also the increasingly popular
Whogayoga for standing
or wheelchair-using partici-
pantsthe effectiveness of
which Rossbach can person-
ally attest.
Ive done it myself, and
you do get a workout, she
laughs.
Residents also have prior-
ity access to the Maplewood
Care Center, conveniently
located on the same cam-
pus as Homestead. The
Maplewood Care Center
offers transitional care ser-
vices as well as long-term
care in a safe and welcoming
environment.
The Care Center also offers
a full range of therapy ser-
vices to help clients achieve
and maintain the quality of
life they deserve.
Meeting every need
Besides the amenities,
Homestead also offers a
full range of care for resi-
dents, from assisted living to
memory care and end-of-life
services. In-house registered
nurses work with residents
to determine their preferred
level of assistance and health
care services, and each resi-
dent receives his or her own
personal emergency pendant
to ensure theyre not alone
when help is needed.
But according to Rossbach,
the most important aspect
of life at Homestead at
Maplewood is the relation-
ships that grow between
neighbors, activity partners,
visitors and staff.
Every resident here is
included in this community,
Rossbach says.

The bank, originally named The
State Bank of Lake Elmo, was first
chartered in 1911 by a group of farm-
ers and local business owners. And
today, a portion of the bank is owned
by its more than 100 employees
through an employee share option
program.
Unique services
Lake Elmo Bank offers a multitude
of services one may not expect to
find at a community bank. In addi-
tion to personal checking and sav-
ings accounts, it also offers credit and
debit cards, business and personal
loans, youth and senior banking and
health savings accounts.
Not only that, but Lake Elmo Bank
also has departments dedicated to
trust and estate services and personal
and business investment services.
Very few banks, especially smaller
banks like us, have departments for
investments and trusts, Lake Elmo
Bank President Dan Raleigh explains.
The experienced trust and estate
services team works with attorneys
and accountants to manage funds and
protect assets. Services include revo-
cable living trusts, conservatorships
and much more.
Personal investment services avail-
able through Lake Elmo Bank include
retirement planning, stocks and
bonds, and college savings plans.
On-the-go convenience
With three locations in Lake Elmo,
Oakdale and Stillwater that include
lobby hours as well as ATMs and
drive-through or walk-up kiosks,
Lake Elmo Bank is convenient for cus-
tomers to receive in-person service.
For those on the go, Lake Elmo
Bank also offers secure mobile and
internet banking options, which are
available at the click of a button 24/7.
Lake Elmo Banks encrypted mobile
banking application is available for
both Android and Apple devices and
is quick and easy to install.
Additionally, Lake Elmo Bank cus-
tomers have access to an extensive
network of over 13,000 surcharge-free
ATMs in the U.S. These ATMs can
be located on-the-go from a mobile
application as well.
Weve always been strong on
electronic services for a community
bank, Raleigh says. And we have
live people to back up our inter-
net and card services, unlike larger
banks.
Community involvement
Lake Elmo Bank maintains its con-
nection to the community by support-
ing local businesses and providing
opportunities for residents to interact
with employees in a casual setting.
The annual Lake Elmo Bank
Community Day takes place in
September, this year joining forces
with the city of Lake Elmo during
Lake Elmo Days. The free picnic is
held in the parking lot of the banks
main office and usually draws more
than 1,000 people.

Bank, stop by one of its three loca-

Oakdale Lake Elmo Sllwater
The OBPAworks to make Oakdale a place
that is friendly to both businesses and custom-
ers. The group was founded by city adminis-
tration and a handful of eager businesses, and
through the years the networking connections
and attention to local needs the OBPAprovides
have contributed to a fertile business environ-
ment and a thriving community.
For OBPAmembers, the group gives them
the chance to keep their fingers on the pulse
of their community. In turn, they bring their
unique perspectives to the OBPA, giving the
group as a whole better insight into the local
business climate.
Bill Burns, OBPApresident and president
of Burns Insurance Agency, says during the
next two years the OBPAwill be focusing on
its partnership with ISD 622. He noted that not
only is the school district a large employer in
the area, it is also responsible for influencing
current students, who are the future leaders of
the community. Connecting students with busi-
ness leaders in the community who can serve
as mentors would likely have beneficial out-
comes, Burns adds.
The OBPAhas also recently revamped its
website, which now benefits OBPAmembers
more than ever by driving web traffic to mem-
bers own websites. The website also empha-
sizes a higher social media presence.
Strong businesses, strong community
According to Burns, the association is a
valuable asset to local businesses.
The OBPAis all about the community and
being active in promoting community events
and businesses within Oakdale to make them
profitable, he said. We want to help busi-
nesses in any way we can. This allows busi-
nesses the opportunity to work with the resi-
dents of Oakdale and others in the community
to improve their reputation and name recogni-
tion around the region.
The OPBAalso encourages residents to sup-
port area businesses by shopping locally. This
not only helps local businesses thrive, but also
ensures that residents dollars are reinvested in
their own community.
Reaching out
In addition to promoting local businesses,
the OBPAtakes an active role in the community
in and around Oakdale. With Holiday Helping
Hands, the OBPAand Tartan High School stu-
dents collect and distribute food and gifts to
families in need each December.
We have the resources both financial
and relational to be able to address the issue
without overburdening any particular group
of people, explained John Larson, a pastor at
Hope Church who serves on the OBPAboard
of directors.
Larson said that the OBPAis well-posi-
tioned to make an impact with programs such
as Holiday Helping Hands because of the
numerous connections to goods and services
that its members share.
Working together through all the networks
we have through the OBPAis huge, Larson
said.
The OBPAalso provides four scholarships
each year, to high school seniors from Oakdale
with exemplary academic and community ser-
vice records.
Stacie Penn, of Carol Matheys Center for
Children and Families, lauds the OBPAs
scholarship support.
OBPAs commitment has been there on the
long term for this, Penn said.
While any single business that offers schol-
arships may have trouble with funding in a
down year, Penn noted the OBPAis able to

t a time when cities and resi-
dents face numerous challenges,
every helping hand makes a dif-
ference. The good news for Oakdale is that
the Oakdale Business and Professional
Association, with its members and nearly
three decades supporting the community,
is planning another active year in 2014.
OBPA Calendar of Events
Spring Fling April 10
The Oakdale Business and Professional Association will be hosting
a Spring Fling at the American Legion Post 39 in North St. Paul. This
event will replace the annual Gold Plate Dinner as the associations larg-
est fundraising, social and networking event with fun activities includ-
ing entertainment by a DJ and a raffle with a major prize.
Tickets are $50 per person and will help raise funds for the associa-
tion that will enable it to provide support for many community programs
including Holiday Helping Hands and scholarships for local students.
The public is invited to attend.
To purchase tickets contact John Larson at 651-755-5591.
June Family Picnic June 12
This is the one meeting a year in which the OBPA invites everyone
in the community to attend. In place of the regular monthly meeting,
the OBPA has a picnic-style lunch. For this event, the OBPA fires up
a giant charcoal grill and serves nearly 1,000 hot dogs to local business
leaders, elected officials, families and residents. The event is free.
Limited sponsorships are available annually. This is certainly a
cant miss event.
For more information or sponsorship opportunities, please contact
Marc Cove, at Platinum Bank, 651-332-5200 or mcove@platinum-
bankmn.com.
OBPA Community Golf Tournament June 23
Each year in June, the OBPA organizes a day of golf. This years
event will be held at Oak Marsh Golf Course (526 Inwood Avenue
North, Oakdale). Participants enjoy a low key day on the golf course
with an emphasis on having fun and networking with other members
and golfers. This event is wrapped up with a wonderful dinner, auction
and awarding of prizes in the club house. Participation is open to the
public.
For more information on becoming an event sponsor, or other ques-
tions, contact Angie Propp, at 651-403-1942 or angie.propp@gmail.
com.
Holiday Helping Hands December
Each year, several thousand dollars worth of gifts and food are
donated to help families in Oakdale. Santa and his elves deliver gifts
during early December. Applicants names are supplied by school social
workers. Heres your chance to step up and join one of the most reward-
ing community projects sponsored by the OBPA. Volunteer to sponsor a
family and shop and wrap their gifts, or volunteer to help distribute the
gifts.
For more information contact John Larson at Hope Church, 651-
738-9652 ext. 207 or email john.larson@hopechurchoakdale.com.
Oakdale Winter Wonderland December
This event gives an opportunity for the Oakdale business community
to mingle with families of Oakdale while enjoying a giant bonfire, visits
with Santa, warm food and drink along with a horse drawn hayride,
FREE! The OBPA sponsors this event in conjunction with the City of
Oakdale and Maplewood/Oakdale Lions Club.
For more information contact Marc Cove at Platinum Bank, 651-

provide a reliable resource for motivated stu-
dents.
Our hope is that they will continue by vol-
unteering in their communities, even if they
dont stay in Oakdale, Penn said.
Recently the OBPAhas increased its
involvement with Beyond the Yellow Ribbon,
an organization that provides support to fami-
lies of active service members of the United
States military. OBPAmembers supply essen-
tial services families may need, especially if
the head of the household is stationed over-
seas.
One of the ways the OBPAraises funds
for its community-care initiatives is through
annual fundraising events such as this years
Spring Fling. In addition to raising funds for
worthy causes, the event is also a great net-
working opportunity and an all-around good
time.
For those involved in the OBPA, its easy to
see how the organization benefits both mem-
bers and the surrounding community. And for
those not yet involved, Bill Burns encourages
them to find out more for themselves.

But Platinum Banks
successes are more
tangible than spread-
sheets. Their loans
and deposits are visi-
ble in new businesses,
revamped buildings,
needed services and
expanded employ-
ment all over the
metro area.
We dont limit our-
selves to a category
or type of business we
work with; theyre all
over the map, says
Marc Cove, chief
operating officer and
one of Platinums
founders.
The banks invest-
ments are being put
into play at office
buildings, cafes and
senior-living com-
plexes; production,
manufacturing servic-
es ranging from truck-
ing to electrical work,
plumbing and home
renovation.
Platinum is also the
partner of choice for
law firms, physicians
accountants and den-
tal clinics, as well as
the solid financial
foundation sought by
many other businesses
and industries within
our community.
Many are local; we
have a big presence
regionally, and some
are in other states,
Cove adds. And
quite a few trade
internationally.
Although its
expanding its com-
mercial banking staff
and has posted its
best year ever since
opening in 2007,
Platinum takes on
new opportunities
carefully and wisely,
and makes sure its
most important cli-
ents its current
ones come first.
People bank with us
because they know
our first and foremost
priority is to take care
of the customers we
have, Cove explains.
Thats how weve
earned their trust and
confidence and
why they recommend
us to others.
Because its not
enough to have a
great concept or a
fabulous skill set
today. The welder
cant just be good at
welding and expect
his or her indepen-
dent business to suc-
ceed, and a great
concept for a store
or service alone isnt
enough anymore.
There are too many
outside factors that
can make or break
that business, and
thats where we can
help.
Platinum itself
opened in 2007, a
year that will be
remembered in this
century like 1929s
kickoff to the Great
Depression in the
last.
It was the banks
sound business plan
and staff s wise judg-
ment that built
Platinums success
from there.
Were a champion
for business, and our
greatest achievement
is continuing to see
our clients do well,
Cove says.

tice seven years ago, is continu-
ing Oakdale Optical Centers
21-year tradition of serving the
community.
In addition to offering a full
range of optical services and
high quality eyewear as well as
treating standard eye conditions,
the center specializes in treating
eye movement disorders fre-
quently getting referrals from
Childrens Hospitals and Clinics.
Vision screenings show one
out of six children in local
schools has an eye movement
disorder, which affects all aspects
of their lives, not just academics.
However, the growing ability
to treat eye-movement problems,
often with a simple regimen of
exercises, means more children
can tackle study and playtime
with sound vision.
Oakdale Optical uses the lat-
est technologies to diagnose and
treat these disorders and other
conditions. Optometric Vision
Therapy, a progressive program
of procedures, helps patients
develop or improve fundamen-
tal visual skills and can change
how the brain interprets visual
images.
Early diagnosis and interven-
tion keeps youngsters from fall-
ing behind on skills and learning
they might miss due to vision
problems. Dr. Cole gets numer-
ous letters from young adults
heading off to college telling
him how much treatment has
benefited them.
In addition to treating eye
movement disorders, Oakdale
Optical also partners with local
schools and sports teams to con-
duct baseline concussion testing.
Personalized service
At any age, patients enjoy
the personalized attention they
receive at Oakdale Optical.
We provide a great compre-
hensive eye exam in a friendly,
personal environment, Dr. Cole
notes, adding the center also pro-
vides eye exams for diabetes and
high blood pressure and can treat
a range of eye diseases including
glaucoma, dry eyes and allergy
eyes.
Dr. Cole and his staff take the
time to help patients make deci-
sions theyre happy with and can
help them maximize their insur-
ance participation notably
by being a preferred provider for
major plans.
Oakdale Optical also recently
improved its own visibility, mov-
ing two doors down from its for-
mer location to provide a more
comfortable environment for
patients.
And its clear that patients
love to come back the cen-
ter has won the Oakdale-Lake
Elmo Review Readers Choice
Award for best place for an eye
exam 14 years in a row. The
success that Oakdale Optical has
had in the local community has
allowed the practice to expand to
Woodbury and Cottage Grove,
Dr. Cole notes, so the center
strives to give back to the com-
munity that has supported it by
routinely donating to local chari-
table causes.
Head to Oakdale Optical to
see the difference clear vision can
make in your life and the lives of
your family members.
Oakdale Optical: your ally in improved vision
The staff at Oakdale
Optical knows that when
you see better, you feel
better.
Left, Oakdale Optical now offers a more comfortable, spacious setting for patients to receive exams or browse for eyewear. Right, customers who havent been to
Oakdale Optical recently may think their eyes are playing tricks on them. The optical center actually moved two doors down from its former location, and is now locat-
ed directly next to the Caribou Coffee at 10th Street and Hadley Avenue.
Each patient at Oakdale Optical is the focus of the attentive, professional staff.
What to
watch for
Parents who are con-
cerned their children
may have vision prob-
lems can look for a vari-
ety of clues that may
suggest treatment is
needed. Clues include:
One eye turn-
ing in or out at a time,
redounded eyes or
lids, excessive tearing,
encrusted eyelids or fre-
quent sty growth on the
lids.
Frequent head-
aches, burning or itch-
ing of eyes after reading
or desk work, seeing
double or finding words
blur together.
Children who turn
their heads while read-
ing across a page, lose
their place frequently
while reading, squint or
repeatedly confuse left
and right directions.

Close your eyes and picture yourself step-
ping into the kitchen of your dreams.
Perhaps you see gleaming quartz coun-
tertops or warm oak and cherry cabinetry.
Maybe theres a center island with a recessed
sink and focused lighting, or new flooring
with a radiant heating to warm your toes on
winter days.
Rossbach Construction can make all
your residential dreams an affordable reality,
whether they include building a new house,
updating a kitchen or bathroom, adding
a family room or redesigning an exterior
entrance.
Since 1981 the company has built a
reputation for quality. Owners Will Rossbach
and Don Hruby hire people who love their
jobs, use quality materials and stand behind
their work. Clients will tell you Rossbach
Constructions level of service is second to
none.
Will and Don conduct business with the
understanding that above all else, customer
satisfaction is always the first priority.
Clients hiring them quickly discover a
level of customer service rarely seen in either
the new construction or remodeling fields.
It starts with your first phone call to
Rossbach Construction. You talk to a real
live person, not a machine. And then staff
makes sure to show up on time for appoint-
ments.
Those sorts of basic considerations are
often found lacking in competitors, Hruby
says.
Rossbachs clients not only stay happy,
but informed.
Customers are kept in the loop with
schedules detailing not just our project start
dates, but end dates too, Hruby says.
Thats the kind of service that has earned
Rossbach a 99 percent satisfaction rating
among the customers theyve polled. And
customers keep coming back for more.
Pent-up desire to
make improvements
During the recent recession, Hruby
says homeowners frequently decided to do
simple fix-ups, such as replacing a window
or doing a necessary repair, and held off on
bigger projects.
Now, as the economy rebounds and real-
estate values recover, people are once again
feeling confident about investing in their
homes. And its no surprise theyre turning
to Rossbach to help them implement those
long-delayed, major improvements.
Hruby says clients often choose to
tackle their outdated kitchens first. The
Rossbach crew will offer guidance on how
to transform inefficient, dark kitchens into
warm, welcoming gathering spaces. They
make recommendations on redesigning the
traffic flow and layout, and offer knowl-
edgeable advice on countertops, cabinets
and appliances.
Hruby says the Rossbach staff also point
out the importance of having the new
kitchen blend seamlessly with the other
rooms in the house. Sometimes visitors
walk into a kitchen and immediately have
the sense its an ill-fitting remodeling job,
Hruby says.
We do our best to match color tones of
the cupboards and floors so the new kitch-
en is unified with whats existing in the rest
of the home.
Bathrooms have been another popu-
lar remodeling project of late. Whether
upgrading the vanity, installing new fixtures
or replacing the fiberglass shower enclosure
with ceramic tile, the folks at Rossbach
can handle all the work and keep the cost
within the clients budget.
No job is too small or too big
And customers have the peace of
mind knowing Rossbach Construction
stands behind its work, not for the
industry standard of one year, but for
five years.
If you need a doorknob replaced, we
can do that, says Hruby. If you want
a whole new house, we can build it for
you. Theres nothing we wont do.
Will and Don also volunteer in their
community. Will has partnered with
Habitat for Humanity to build sound hous-
ing for those in need of adequate shelter,
and Don participates in a builders outreach
program which helps our injured war veter-
ans fix up and maintain their homes. Will
served on the Maplewood City Council for
several years and recently stepped down
from his post as mayor.
It is this type of dedication - and the
obvious pride that comes with a job well
done - that the company knows will keep
customers coming back for more, in any
kind of economy.
Thats because theyve been around
enough to know their sterling reputation
for quality not only keeps them going in
boom times when shoddy firms proliferate,
but also sees them through economic rough
patches when lesser companies quickly van-
ish.
We cant stress that enough, Hruby
says. A customer needs to know that their
contractor will be around when a projects
done, because a warranty is only as good as
the company that stands behind it.
Helping to fulfill homeowners
dreams; thats what the folks at Rossbach
Construction have been doing so well for
more than three decades.
