Durham People's Alliance

February Activist Alert
You Can Vote
The fight to take back our state begins this Saturday, February 22 with the launch of Durham PAs You Can Vote project. You Can Vote is a non-partisan project that brings together a broad coalition of voting rights groups and progressive organizations to work directly in Durham and across North Carolina to fight voter suppression. NC House Bill 589 instituted a range of negative changes to election law, making it harder for people to vote. However, with a concerted effort, we can minimize the impact of this bill. The You Can Vote project will work to identify, assist, and educate voters about changes taking effect in 2014, and work to catalog those who will need help gaining proper identification to vote in 2016 elections. The 2014 election changes that will be highlighted by You Can Vote are: the inability to cast provisional ballots when voting out of precinct; the asking of voters for identification even though it is NOT required; and the changing of early voting schedules and locations. These changes not only make it harder for people to vote, but the accompanying misinformation has the potential to suppress the historic voter turnouts seen in recent elections. With your help, the You Can Vote project will fight back, inform voters, and keep voting levels high. We hope that you will join Durham People's Alliance and Senator Mike Woodard at 9:30AM on Saturday, February 22 for the kick-off of this critical project. We also need your time and energy for future events as we work to keep Durham and North Carolina moving forward! Please CLICK HERE to RSVP for the You Can
