Serial Data to Ethernet Device Servers / Media Converters

Signamax Connectivity Systems 065-1063 series of RS-232/422/485 serial data to Ethernet device servers / media converters are the perfect answer to the problem of integrating serial data devices into a convergent Ethernet-based network. These converters accept serial data on one port in either RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 format and convert the serial data stream into Ethernet/Fast Ethernet framed and formatted packets. These packets can then be transported across an Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, or Gigabit Ethernet network to either a server or another 065-1063x series converter, which reconstructs the Ethernet packets into the original serial data bit stream. Use the 065-1063T to connect serial data devices to your Ethernet / Fast Ethernet network over twisted-pair cable. For longer distance extension to the networks core, the 065-1063FSx series connects serial data devices to your Fast Ethernet 100BaseFX network at distances up to 30 kilometers (over 18.6 miles). 065-1063 series converters are usable in Industrial Ethernet applications, to incorporate serial interface Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) devices such as milling machines and lathes/routers for furniture manufacture into an Ethernet network. This avoids the requirement for a separate serial data network and its associated cabling plan. It also allows the controlling computers to be remotely placed from the controlled devices, without regard for the distances involved. For example, RS-232 connections are by definition maxed at 50 feet; lowcapacitance cable increases this in the field to about 200 feet. The singlemode fiber version, model 0651063FSM, increases this distance to 30 kilometers (over 18.6 miles) in a typical application. Security is another application that is well-suited for the 065-1063x series converters. They allow a network designer to incorporate serial data-controlled devices such as door locks, Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) camera control, and fingerprint/retinal scanners into a common Ethernet network, with the same advantages of a common cabling plan and distance extension as stated above. The 065-1063 series also avoids costly retrofit of newer PLCs and CNC devices to incorporate them into a new networking architecture. Rather than re-buy the PLCs or the machines, the 065-1063x series converters can be used to effect the same result if the current level of control is satisfactory. The 065-1063 series functions either as a device server, for as a device server, for point-to-multipoint server based applications. Each of the 065-1063 series devices maintains an individually assigned IP address for complete application flexibility.
