* Andy was playing with his kid, on a quiet beach in the Caribbean. Daddy, when I grow up, I want to be a lawyer. Why is that so? Well, I want to get good people stay out of jail. What if not everybody is good people? I will not take cases of guilty people, daddy.

He was smiling. Sadly, the jury thought of it more as a psychopath smile that a happy fathers smile. Sir Conrad? said the D.A. I will have to repeat myself. Did you or did you not threaten James Roseburn on the day he died? Well you know I did, you have the tape. So, you threatened James Roseburn and he got killed afterwards. Odd coincidence, huh? Objection, your honor! The prosecutor is speculating! Overruled! Go on mr. Ganlou. Thank you your honor. So why dont we listen to the tape?

Andy looked at the court, but everything seemed so strange. He was thinking at those beautiful moments of his life when he was playing with his kid, and it seemed that those moments were part of another life. He knew his life wouldnt be the same, even though he still had hope. While he was dreaming, he could hear the words he had been repeating in his head every night since Roseburns murder. You, you are trying to take me out of the company! Andy, how can you say that? Youre like a brother to me. Where did that come from? Roseburn, cut the lies! Rumors say you were trying to get me out of the business, and finally out of the company! Andy, come on! Youve been CEO since you were so much younger! Dont you want to spend time with your kid, let me be the head of the company. You, you bastard! So you pretend to be my brother but in fact you go behind my back, right? Youre going to be sorry! He was interested in technology since he was a little kid. Graduated M.I.T., he started his own company when he was only 24. Soon, he became one of the richest people in California. But how did that help now? His wife wasnt in the court. He lied to her, saying he didnt threaten Roseburn, so he didnt blame her for not trusting him. God, but how much he wished she was there. Her and his son, Danny were the only people he cared for. As hours went by, and he kept answering to the same questions, he didnt even notice it was getting dark, when the judge said: Court is suspended. A if he was just a marionette, he felt his legs moving, outside the Court. The reporters were already there. Andy Conrad, how did you murder James Roseburn? What does your son think about this? Was your wife an accomplice? And they kept asking all sorts of pathetic questions, that had nothing to do with reality. Andy ran, without answering any question.

Chapter 2
Andys attorney was talking to him. Andy, you know this looks bad, dont you? I dont think pleading innocent was a good idea, after all. The prosecution is willing to give up death penalty if you confess. Confess what? I didnt kill JamesII killed nobody. Why dont you folks believe me?

Andy, its not my job to believe you, its my job to defend you. And dont you think that after everyone in the country has already thought you are guilty, the jury finding you guilty is just a formality? You have the murder weapon, you threatened him, and there was his blood on your shirt, God damn it! Just take the deal! Are you really willing to take such a risk as death penalty? NoII will take the deal Great, Ill talk to the DA. I hope I can get you ten years. Ten years? He said that and his eyes were full of tears. In ten years his son would have gone to college already. But from that moment, he felt this was his new life, a different one from the one he had before.

Chapter 3
The trial was short, but the jury was staying more and more discussing. They all had different opinions. As time went by, Andys heart was beating faster, when his attorney came. - Andy, you wont like this butthe prosecution offered us another deal. - Go ahead, tell me. - Ten years Andy, I know you dont like it butjust think about it. The jury will give you twenty years at least. In ten years, your son will be at college, youll be there for him, I would be fine with that. Without knowing what he was saying he whispered: - Yes, why dont we do that. Luke s Mum and Dad are separated and Luke lives with his mother. Hahanew inmates. This is going to be real fun! said Langley. Why dont we start, Goldie? - Goldie was a giant, muscular man. He told the inmates the rules, and one of them burst into laughter. Goldie! Go teach this rubbish a lesson! And Goldie started beating him, until he was unconscious, on the floor. Andy looked frightened at the horrible scene The following day, mr. Landley told the prisoners: -You all have mail, rubbishes! Andy opened his letter, surprised. His wife wouldnt talk to him, his friends left him as if he was the last man on earth, The letter said: Dear unknown, I dont know you, and all I know is that you are a prisoner. Im not going to be rude, as my colleagues are. I know everybody make mistakes, and in the end, you are just a men who made a mistake, like all of us. You are behind bars only because you got caught. I myself do lots of bad things. I stay up late at night, I eat cookies when I shouldnt, but my mum says you are in prison because your mistake was illegal. I dont know what that means, but Im not going to judge you. You should never lose your faith, because finally life will treat you as you deserve. Just think at prison as a break from life. Wont you be so happy to get out of jail? After all, you dont know how much you love something, until youve lost it. I am new at my school, and I have no friends. I know this seems odd butwould you be my friend? Yours truthfully, Luke Who would have know that a kids letter could make someone so happy. He was similing, after such a long time. He started writing to Luke, and this unknown kid soon became the person who saved him, who made him see beneath all the bad stuff that happened to him. He gave him something his own family and friend couldnt give him, which was hope. What would we all be without it?
