Outline of presentation For any kind of gathering/protest: 1. Concerning about the activity: 1. Safety; 2. Efficacy 2.

Assessment approach to the activity: 1. Statistical analysis; 2. Logical analysis

**Note: for most of the factors below, if possible we should do a trend/dynamics, ie the change in time (remember to quote time of event, reference). Please be in table form if possible.

Deadline for data submission: 10-11-2013 (Coming Sunday)

Safety (Wai Yan) Assess whether it is likely to turn into violence/undesirable outcome (negative)[define violence] Define violence/not-safe base on: (brainstorm about this more by violence) (Laura) No. of casualties Extent of damage (how to quantify, maybe costs) No. of people arrested Comments by the media/studies/others (difficult) Characteristics of a violence From the protestors perspective: throw, vandalism, illegal acts[difficult to
quantify]

From the polices perspective: use of various weapons or suppressive methods Risk factors than might lead to violence: Age (and its distribution) No. of participating people Background/educational level of the people (concern about the major organizers) Nature of gathering/activity No of opposing forces (mainly police) Method of protest Venue/district Duration of the activity Weather (joke)

do a presumptive projection on the coming event of Occupy Central

Efficacy (Laura) - How persuasive is the organization/organizer/event Supportiveness from the public (in terms of past experience, statistics nature of events, outcome) Nature of event (in terms of past experience, statistics nature of events, outcome) No of participants involved Rationale of the organizers/event (logical analysis only) Similar events with same rationale (about the government s respond, logical/descriptive) Legality (legality vs outcome) *outcome: classify into 1. Successful; 2. Unsuccessful; 3. In progress; 4.

Unknown How much it costs Money Supportiveness Past experience in supportiveness vs money vs outcome How acceptance is the responder (in this case, the government) (Bridget) Past statistics (classify into nature of events/protests; this gives an idea for the changes in acceptance, the trend, also which nature of events is likely to be accepted gives the overall picture of how responsive the government is to the public voices) Look into detail about the current event (Politically-related event for Occupy Central) Time for the government to respond[define time to respond]

**Note: for most of the factors above, if possible we should do a trend/dynamics, ie the change in time Plot graphs and analysis, powerpoint (Hei Ming) Decide whether we are for or against the issue
