2014 National Road Run:
The first road run registration has been received. Gene has had two calls regarding the run. One caller said River Life was full. Gene will call the resort. Gary has alternate lodging on the web site. Discussion on new requirement that we must see written proof of liability insurance for road run participants. Shannon will add insurance disclaimer to waiver and send to TomR. Tom and Gene will refine maps. More planned stops like beach, Mary's peak, Cape Perpetua. There were requests to add directions. Perhaps print written directions on the back. Norlene is doing dinner Thursday and Friday. T-shirt designs were passed around. Looking at pocket t's. Shannon suggested we order some women's t-shirts, based on received registrations. Printing on both sides does increase the cost. Shannon mentioned the photographer and picture DVD that the Big Sky chapter did at their National Road Run in 2012. The photographer set up on a scenic corner on the route, taking individual pictures as each bike went by. A DVD of all the pictures was given to each participant. Discussion about having some bikes on display at the resort. Gene is going to talk to members about bringing bikes for display.
New Business:
Welcome to new members Russ and Nicky Citti.
Russ rides a ’46 HD Flathead and lives in
Waldport, OR. Meeting adjourned at 3:05.

Why We Ride
By David Peterson
I went to see the movie "Why We Ride" last night in Larkspur and it appeared to be an all biker audience! Anyone living here would enjoy seeing all the locations we ride in Southern California and a few familiar faces too. I recognized Mert Lawwill of Tiburon because I met him with my dad at the Oregon Antique Club's annual chapter awards dinner and ride. I thought there could have been many more racers and bike guys included in the movie from a historical viewpoint. This was especially apparent for the Indian and Harley riders which were discussed for quite some time. I found the lack of name calling highly unusual. Like Perkins and Jones when they covered Ed Kretz the Iron Man. I saw number 33 Bill Brownell in the old footage several times! For instance, a funny man in the film talked about Brando's film "The Wild Ones" but didn't mention the Booze Fighters or go off on it. The film started really grabbing your attention as it slowly pulled you into a trance around a select few, but lacked enough action, riding, individual biographies, and bike events. They didn't even show Kenny Roberts on his one mile dirt bike even though they featured him several times. When I was about 15 I saw him fly out of sight through the hay bales at the Sacramento Mile. The race stopped for 45 minutes until the announcer yelled out "here he comes folks let's give him a big hand" as a pickup truck paraded Kenny down the track for the grand stands holding up his front forks with the front wheel still attached. He was ok! I felt like there was too much repetitive talking and the soundtrack needed more variety. The movie lacked enough entertaining shots and was too narrow for the amount of information that easily could have been in the film. I think a little more focus on history would have tied the loop together leaving the viewer to walk away feeling it was a really great movie! There were lots of fun stories and responses to how great riding is and some of the cinematography was excellent. Overall, I did like the film and was glad I got to see it! I would recommend this film to anyone that loves bikes since we don't have many movies about motorcycles. "On Any Sunday" came across better; more like a Warren Miller Ski production.
I’d give
it a 2 1/2 star rating out of 4. For
comparison, I’d rate On Any Sunday
a 3.
