The petition was filed in March this year and is pending in the court.
One of the students of the Indian Institute of Management- Indore (IIM-I) , Varun Yadav, who was expelled on the charge of consuming narcotic substance ( Ganja) inside the institute's hostel, has moved court against the institute. He has alleged that the IIM-I has done injustice to him and "offended his right to equality". A five- year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) batch student, the petitioner was expelled in January this year. He has filed a writ petition in the Indore bench of MP High Court against the IIM- Indore and the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). The student in his petition claimed that he was singled out by the institute for expulsion on the charge of consuming alcohol during a college trip at Ranthambore in January this year even though he was accompanied by other students who were let off with a penalty of Rs 50,000 that was later reduced to Rs 10,000. "Ten other students were also involved in the incident but they were let off with minor fine whereas he ( petitioner) was asked to pay a heavy penalty without any enquiry," the petition stated. " This was a flagrant violation of principals of natural justice and fair play", he said. The petitioner has also alleged that the institute suspended him for six months in February 2012 on the charge of consuming Ganja in the IPM hostel without carrying out a "medical

inspection to substantiate intoxication". He claimed "not sort of Ganja or psychotropic substance was found in the room or in (his) possession." The petition was filed in March this year and is pending in court. The institute has expelled seven students on the charges of drug consumption in the last two years.
