ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Conduct of the Assessment
You must complete this assessment as a crew of Driver and a Guard. Each must however write down their response and then present their answers in turn. You will be provided with the scenarios and paper to write down your responses. Ensure you write your name on the top of the papers and the scenario number. Each Group will be given 2 scenarios to work through and 15 minutes to develop their solution. You are to work on your individual solution. Once the development time is up the responses are to be handed to the Assessor. Each crew will be called into a room or to a location, you will be given your responses back and then asked to present your solution to the Assessor. You will have 2 minutes each to present your solution (Driver then Guard Action). The trainer/assessor will check your response against the marking guide. The Assessor may ask question to seek clarity to the information provided and/or to moderate the responses. If moderated responses are provided by you, you will bas asked to add that response to your the written responses. When all of the groups have presented their solutions the Assessor will provide feedback to the candidates on all of the scenarios. Where you have not provided sufficient evidence in your response the Assessor may: Give you a new scenario to work through and represent or Orally question the you against a new scenario to draw evidence of competence
Validation
The trainer/assessor will supervise your completion of the assessment. Using resources or assistance other than that provided for the purposes of assessment will invalidate your attempt and you will be deemed as not yet competent for that attempt.
Signatures
Both the assessor and candidate MUST sign the front of the assessment paper. These signatures confirm that pre-assessment details were provided to the candidate prior to the assessment being conducted and that the assessment process was valid.
Achieving competence
Competence for this assessment will be determined by a grading system where 80% of the total solution needs to be achieved. Each candidate is afforded three (3) assessment attempts. They will be provided targeted coaching/training between each attempt. The assessment tool used will vary for each assessment attempt. The process RailCorp trainers will use to determine competence is as follows: Competence (C) = 80% Further evidence requirement/Informal Assessment Review and Re-grading conducted = 70% - 79% Not Yet Competent (NYC) = 69%
Further Evidence Requirement/Informal Assessment Reviews are conducted on the same day the assessment was administered for those who achieved a mark between 70% - 79%. This opportunity is provided for candidates where Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LLN), English as a Second Language (ESL) or other learning issues may have affected their understanding of the questions asked. Only competencies where incorrect responses were given will be re-assessed. The trainer will NOT provide coaching or re-training in the content of the course during an Informal Assessment Review. The trainer will provide assistance by re-reading questions, clarifying questions, re-phrasing questions and where necessary seek and accept verbal responses and scribe answers for the candidate.
Those deemed Not Yet Competent after the third (3rd) attempt will have their individual progress and course of action considered and determined by either a Review Panel or the relevant Business Group.
