Is there any room in our scientific and reasonable worldview for listening to a hunch, for following our gut? What good is it to speak of such things when we cant put our finger on the source of intuition, or identify the benefits of an irrational way of knowing? Join us as we explore the value and limitations of our intuitive side.

"Now is the time for all good people..." Judy Goldsmith.
How does the Supreme Court decision fit with our UU principle, "The right of conscience and use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large"? Judy will share her reflections on this important topic. Judy grew up in Two Rivers. Currently she is on the Fond du Lac County Board, after a career in education. She is a well-known speaker, and we have been stimulated by her presentations for several years. "Is Courage a Religious Value? " Arthur Thexton Courage is often associated with heroism on the battlefield or with disease and heartbreak. In our history of religions, we see other examples of courage, in the many martyrs to faiths. Easter is one such. Does the choice to belong take courage, today? Even to an institution like the UU Fellowship, in a country with constitutional protections for all sorts of religious practices? Arthur will share his reflections on this topic. Arthur is our most frequent speaker who graduated from seminary, although he chose the law as his profession. He works for the state of Wisconsin in Madison.

Service Planning: How we do it

A number of people have asked me how we manage to find such good speakers, and they have also complimented the order of service and how well the service seems to go together. I thought you just might want to know our process. (If you dont want to know, just skip to the next newsletter item.) This year there are six of us who meet monthly to plan the years services. (We already have two speakers for next year!) We have a list of possibilities that we choose from as well as using our committees contacts. Then we figure out who will lead each service from among our list of people who have served before or who have volunteered and are willing to meet with the committee to learn the details involved in service leading. The service leader either chooses the opening and closing words or asks Ginny Finnel, our preparer of service guides, to choose them. We try to choose elements of the service to go with the topic that the speaker has chosen. I usually choose the hymns, but the speaker has a voice in that too. Then Ginny prepares the guide and announcements and sends it to OfficeMax by Wednesday early afternoon, so that OfficeMax can have it printed, copied and folded in time for Ginny to pick it up and deliver it to the fellowship by the end of the day on Friday. We would be delighted to have suggestions of topics or speakers. Just speak to one of the committee: Ginny, Jim Sustman, Mary Jo Urban, Jessica Van Slooten, Becky Abler, and myself. We cant promise to use them all, but we like having choices! If you have read this far, thanks!

We would like to expand our orientation to include not just new members, but also our friends who arent quite ready to sign our Membership Book. If you want to learn more about the UUs, both locally and globally, then attending an orientation should be on your list of things to do. Please contact Kim or Jim Everett or Dan Fischer and let them know you would like to join us at the orientation. Also, if you are considering becoming a member of the Lakeshore UU Fellowship, this would be a good time to take that step. Sunday, March 30 will be our new member recognition service, which gives us an opportunity to formally welcome new members to the Fellowship.

The day-to-day life of our fellowship is the glue that holds our spiritual community together. Unitarian Universalism approaches the more "secular" aspects of fellowship life with the same religious intent as its worship. Our religious education classes, adult activities groups, community volunteerism and building facilities committees FACILITIES are essential aspects of our spiritual work. We believe it is our deeds, not our creeds, which are most important. COMMITTEE Every day we have people helping the Fellowship in ways that allow our community to thrive. Whether you are a board member, on a committee, you make coffee, do dishes, vacuum, shovel snow, rack leaves, plan a garden, help coordinate a service or you do one of the other countless tasks, the time and talents you share is incredibly important for our Fellowship community. Please know you are immensely appreciated. Ron Kossik (Chair) Tom Clark Kathy Fishback Jim Rabata Dick Urban
