Getting started
The HP LoadRunner 11.5 Evaluation Package is a zip file containing 2 main folders: HP LoadRunner 11.5 Installation Files folder: This folder contains the main file to install HP LoadRunner 11.5 HP LoadRunner 11.5 Patches folder: This folder contains the most recent general patches for HP LoadRunner 11.5 as of the time of the package release (Oct, 2012)

To install HP LoadRunner, start by unzipping the files to a local directory. Then, go to the HP LoadRunner 11.5 Installation Files folder and read the README.html which is available there for specific details about the installation process. There is also an installation guide (Install.pdf) which can provide additional details. Once youve confirmed that you meet the system requirements for installing HP LoadRunner, go ahead and click on the setup.exe file to begin the installation process. As noted in the installation guide and installation Readme, there are various components to HP LoadRunner (Controller, Analysis, Load Generator, VuGen) and they dont all need to be installed on the same system. After completing the installation process, youll need to install Patch 1 for the various components of HP LoadRunner. Go to the HP LoadRunner 11.5 Patches folder and youll see the various patches that are available for the various components of HP LoadRunner. Additional details on the patches are listed below, but generally just clicking on the .EXE file for the various patches will install them.

Notes for Internet Explorer 6 users

For those of you downloading this evaluation package from the HP web site, please note that IE6 has a 2GB limit on the size of files it is able to download. When you registered to download the evaluation package for HP LoadRunner 11.5, an email is sent to the email address associated with your registration ID. In that email, you will find a link to an alternate page which also provides a download manager to assist you in downloading the HP LoadRunner 11.5 evaluation software. This download manager will enable you to get past the 2GB file size limitation in IE6, and will also provide other useful features such as resuming dropped connections.

Summary of patches included in the evaluation

The folder titled HP LoadRunner 11.5 Patches contains several patches related to the various components of HP LoadRunner.

Installing HP LoadRunner 11.5

The installation files for HP LoadRunner 11.5 are located in the HP LoadRunner 11.5 Installation Files folder. Within that folder you will find another readme.htm document which outlines in greater detail the installation requirements for HP LoadRunner 11.5 and other valuable information. After reviewing the readme document in that folder, you can begin your installation of HP LoadRunner 11.5 by clicking on the setup.exe file.

Installing patch 1 critical update LR_03129

LR_03129 Patch is a critical patch to be installed on the system where the HP LoadRunner Controller is installed. It addresses a memory leak in the AJAX TruClient protocol. To install the Patch 1 Critical Update. 1. Back up your system before installing a patch. 2. Execute the patch: LR_03129.EXE The HP LoadRunner Agent should be closed before installing or uninstalling HP LoadRunner 11.5 Patch 1.

Installing Load Generator patch 1 critical update

The HP LoadRunner Load Generator is the component of HP LoadRunner which executes a high volume of Virtual User scripts to create realistic load on your systems during a load test. The Load Generator Patch 1 LRLG_00022 should be installed on whichever systems youve installed the Load Generator software on. It add resses a memory leak in the AJAX TruClient protocol. (For most evaluation users, the Load Generator is installed on the same box as the HP LoadRunner Controller, but as you move to larger load tests you typically would have one or more load generators on separate systems) To install Patch 1 for LoadGenerators: 1. Back up your system before installing a patch

2. Execute the patch: LRLG_00022.EXE The HP LoadRunner Agent should be closed before installing or uninstalling HP LoadRunner 11.5 Patch 1.

Installing the HP LoadRunner VuGen SA patch 1 critical update - LRVUG_00029.EXE

The Virtual User Generator, or VuGen for short, allows you to record various user actions to create a script which can then be played back in high volume from the Load Generators. VuGen can be installed on several systems at once to allow multiple people to create scripts simultaneously. The LRVUG_00029 patch should be installed on every system where VuGen is installed. It addresses a memory leak in the AJAX TruClient protocol. To install Patch 1 for VuGen: 1. Back up your system before installing a patch. 2. Execute the patch: LRVUG_00029.EXE The HP LoadRunner Agent should be closed before installing or uninstalling HP LoadRunner 11.5 Patch 1.
