Windows 7 Always Logs On With Temporary Profile While working on Windows 7 for a long time, it is likely that you would frequently install, repair and uninstall several applications on the computer to make the machine comfortable to use as per your preferences. When such activities take place on a regular basis, the chances are that you might accidently corrupt a running application. An application may also get corrupted due to abrupt and improper Windows shutdown, voltage fluctuations (in case UPS is absent or fails to function properly), etc. As the result, many times the files that the logged on user profile has also get corrupt. When this happens, every time the user tries to log on to the computer using the username and password, the profile fails to load. This enforces Windows 7 to create a new temporary profile to allow the user to log on to the computer. This temporary profile is also automatically deleted as soon the user logs off. Every time the user attempts to log on to the computer and the default profile fails to initialize, a new profile is created at each successful logon and gets deleted while logging off. Although with the help of such temporary profile the user is allowed to log on to the computer and is allowed to access the resources that the system contains, the user cannot access the files that were stored at the users private locations such as users Desktop, My Documents, etc. This section provides step-by-step tutorial telling how to rectify this issue without creating a new user profile, and eliminate the need of transferring the important files from the old (corrupt) user profile to the new one. Heres what you need to do to get the things done: 1. Since the registry of Windows 7 is to be modified, log on to the computer using the administrator account. 2. Click the Start button. 3. From the Start menu, in the search bar at the bottom, type REGEDIT command and hit Enter key. 4. On the UAC confirmation box, click Yes button to provide your consent to continue. 5. On the opened Registry Editor window, in the left pane, navigate and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProileList. 6. From the expanded list, right-click the user profile ID that is without the .bak extension. 7. From the displayed context menu, click Rename and rename it to .new or something else.
