Assignment Title: State Machine using VHDL Design a State Machine used to control a voicemail system. The voicemail controller allows the user to 1. Send messages, 2. Review messages, 3. Save messages, and 4. Erase messages. The normal starting state is main. From main, the user can select whether to review messages or to send messages. To get to the review menu, the user presses the 1 key on the touch-tone phone. To select the send message menu, the user presses the 2 key on the touch-tone phone. After the user has selected either of these options, further menu options allows the user to perform other functions such as save and erase. For instance, if the user first selects the review menu by pressing key 1, then pressing key 2 allows the user to save a reviewed message when reviewing is complete. Marks allocation: Report will be assessed on the basis of following marking criteria. Implement your solution using VHDL. A formal report should explain and justify your design and result obtained. Reference the all information sources. a) Research ideas and concepts (10 Marks) Initiate and undertake search information related to the problem domain, evaluate it and recommend action based on the information. b) Theoretical details (15 Marks) You are required to explain the concepts involved in the problem in detail. c) State Transition Diagram (15 Marks) Design the State Transition Diagram for getting the desired output. d) VHDL Program and Simulation (30 Marks) Obtain the simulation result by running the VHDL Program and draw the plot of desired output parameters if required and also obtain the output file. e) Conclusions and Results (10 Marks)

Compare the simulation results with the observed and theoretical values and write down the conclusion. You are required to make brief note on what you have done in your work. f) Presentation and Viva-Voice (15 Marks) After submission of your final report you will be asked questions related to the experiment(s) and presentation conducted. You will be asked to discuss the critical analysis of experiment(s). g) Formatting (5 Marks) Formatting should be proper as mentioned in assignment requirement. ASSIGNMENT REQUIREMENTS You are required to work individually. Expected length of the report is 3000 words. Attach the marking scheme provided at second page after the CSFF. Header and footer must be as per institute format. The report has to be well presented and should be typed. Submission of reports that are unprofessional in its outlook (dirty, disorganized, inconsistent look, varying colored paper and size) will not fair well when marks are allocated. Ensure that the report is printed on standard A4 (210 X 297 mm) sized paper. Paper weight of 80 grams and above is highly recommended. The report must be in spiral binding. The report should have a one (1) margin all around the page as illustrated below:

Every report must have a front cover. A transparent plastic sheet can be placed in front of the report to protect the front cover.

Plagiarism is a serious offence and will automatically be awarded zero (0) marks. All information, figures and diagrams obtained from external sources must be referenced using the Harvard referencing system accordingly.

Referencing: This includes the quality of references used: research papers, articles, books, journals etc. and the adoption of Harvard referencing system for all facts and diagrams used.

The total marks obtained in the assignment will be graded as per the following grading criteria Grade A B C D E F % Marks 70 to 100 60 to 69 50 to 59 40 to 49 30 to 39 00 to 29 Marks 70 to 100 60 to 69 50 to 59 40 to 49 30 to 39 00 to 29 Remarks Distinction Credit Credit Pass Marginal Fail Fail
