4 XBT527 Overview
4.1 Project functionality
The XBT527 project finds its field of application in ISDB-T Transport Stream based Broadcasting Systems as Network Adapter.

4.2 ISDB-T topology overview

A brief overview of the SBTVD/ISDB-T topology will help to understand the features of the XBT527 device. The following figure shows a topology used for the transmission in a 3-layers system.

Inside this topology the four elements highlighted are responsible of the correct multiplexing and synchronization of the streams before the ISDB-T modulator: XBT527 for Layer A: multiplex one or more TS with a bit-rate suitable for the modulation scheme of Layer A and add SI/PSI. XBT527 for Layer B: multiplex one or more TS with a bit-rate suitable for the modulation scheme of Layer B and add SI/PSI. XBT527 for Layer C: multiplex one or more TS with a bit-rate suitable for the modulation scheme of Layer C and add SI/PSI. XBT528, BTS multiplexer: multiplex the three layers streams into one synchronized BTS. In order to provide a correct synchronization for the BTS multiplexing operation the streams must be already adapted in the XBT527 multiplexers: each XBT527 output is a stream with 204 byte packet and which bit-rate is already the 32.5 Mbps used by BTS stream. In this stream packets occupy a specific position depending on the layer in which they are going to be transmitted, so there is a part of the stream composed by the data of the actual layer of the XBT527 and the rest filled with stuffing packets in places of data of the other layers. Using this approach is important that all the system is using the same parameters, and all three XBT527 are set with the same settings for their own layer and for the others.

4.3 Device Overview

XBT527 is an ISDB-T dedicated single-channel TS multiplexer with PID filter/remapping and PSI/SI Table provider and ISDB-T network adapter that generates from multiple input Transport Streams (TS) at different rates, a single TS multiplex at a fixed data rate. 4.3.1 Output bit-rate tuned for ISDB-T system The output bit-rate is fixed to the fractional value of The output data is composed by: Data from inputs filtering/multiplexing adapted with null packets to the bit-rate specific of the actual layer to which the XBT 527 is dedicated; SI/PSI of the actual layer to which the XBT527 is dedicated; if actual layer is not A: empty packets (place holder packets) flagged with PID 0x1FFE provided with layer A specific bit-rate; if actual layer is not B: empty packets (place holder packets) flagged with PID 0x1FFD provided with layer B specific bit-rate; if actual layer is not C: empty packets (place holder packets) flagged with PID 0x1FFC provided with layer C specific bit-rate; Null packets added to reach the total fixed output bit-rate.

2048 Mbps (approx 32.507 Mbps). 63

Each output layer specific bit-rate and the output packets sequence are automatically set according to the ISDB-T modulation configured. The ISDB-T modulation configuration depends on the following parameters defined for SBTVD/ISDB-T by the Standard Definition Document ABNR NBR 15603-1. Modulation Mode (number of carriers) Guard time FEC for each layer Constellation for each layer Number of used (spectrum band) segments for each layer

The output packets format is 204 bytes. The last 16 bytes are filled with stuffing bits except the bits [04] of the byte 190 and the bits [07] of the byte 191 that are used for the packet counter that resets at each Multiplex Frame (defined by ISDB-T standard as a group of packets whose number is dependent on Modulation Mode and Guard Time).

4.4 Features
XBT527 composes a user defined output stream through manual PID filtering and/or remapping and through the insertion of SI/PSI from an external Database. The main features are: Input statistics; Composition of an output Transport Stream with a new bitrate; PID filtering/remapping at every input;

Null packets deletion from input Transport Streams and their insertion in the output one; PCR restamping; Integrated Java based GUI for input TS analysis and static PSI composing; Store and forward of PSI carousel; Real time SI updating trough an external database manager (e.g. XBT-777E); ISDB-T Auto TS output bitrate setting; External or GPS clock locking for stable output; PCR replace function on Layer A if used for partial reception: o o Implemented only for logical input 1). Works only for a single PCR is present in Layer A and if used PCR PID is different from Video PID

4.4.1

External SI management interface (optional) External software interfaces allow the modification or generation of SI tables following any standard.

4.5 Data Inputs

The TS input can be provided through different physical input interfaces:

The physical input is mapped by user definition to 4 logical inputs, but each physical input can be mapped only once on the logical input. PID filtering/remapping is available separately for each logical input.

4.6 Synchronization
The internal 10 MHz reference can be locked to an external clock frequency source. This is necessary in those environments where the synchronization to a common, highly stable and with high precision clock reference is mandatory.
Version 1.7a XBT527_Help_v1_7a.doc Page 9 of 181

M.B. International Telecom Labs s.r.l.

ISO 9001:2000 Cert. N2190/1

Available clock references are 10 MHz and 1 PPS from the integrated GPS receiver (needs a GPS antenna connected) and from an external source. The locking to an external or GPS reference source is mandatory for the device to work in a synchronized ISDB-T system along with XBT528 (BTS multiplexer). The output bypass connectors allow the XBT527 device to output stable references locked to the input clock selected.

4.7 Data Outputs

5.4 CAM (PID Filter)

XBT527 provides commands and monitoring that allows the manual filtering of each single PID contained in each logical input for a versatile re-multiplexing of one or more inputs. Click on CAM (PID Filter) button, highlighted in the next figure, to access the PID filtering and remapping window. Before describing the filter command the user should be aware of the following features and guidelines: The default behavior of the PID filter is Pass none on all inputs. The filter is related to the logical inputs, the association between physical and logical input must be performed in the input sub-window and it is described in the previous paragraph. The filtering list is manually set and independent from the PID configuration actually present in the input TS: the filter let pass or blocks packets with the selected PID if present in the input TS but the device doesnt know if those pack ets are present or not. The user shall be aware of the PIDs actually present in the TS and their meaning. PIDs are expressed in decimal form. There is no consistency check when a PID is remapped, so the user shall take care to avoid settings that could overlap PID in the output. PIDs of SI/PSI tables that are added by the multiplexer must be manually filtered in order to avoid overlap in the output SI/PSI data.

Table 6. Box Input Input Parameter / Control Read SI/PSI input tree Input data viewer Description Reads the SI/PSI tables from each logical input TS and allows the analysis of tables and descriptors. Shows in a tree fashion the hierarchy of input SI/PSI data. Each table is shown as an expandable tree node to allow a precise representation of data fields. Divided in two sub-windows. One that provides a visualization of the decoded data field selected along with its own value. The other provides a visualization of the data field selected still encoded in the hexadecimal values format as it is transmitted in the table. Allows adding an instance of a selected SI/PSI table inside a previously created tree. It also allows adding an instance of a descriptor inside a selected table previously created. This operation is performed only on the local tree, the carousel will not be modified until a write command is performed. Allows transferring the current local SI/PSI tree to the carousel memory of the device. Carousel Note: all operations done to the local SI/PSI tree are not applied to the actual output TS until this command is done and a closing of the Java GUI will result in local data losing. This command resets the Carousel dedicated memory on the device and updates the Carousel tree sub-section. Performing this command without saving the SI/PSI carousel will result in SI/PSI data loosing. Allows removing an instance of a selected table from a local SI/PSI tree. It also allows deleting an instance of a descriptor from a selected table. This operation is performed only on the local tree, the carousel will not be modified until a write command is performed Allows transferring the carousel memory of the device to the local SI/PSI tree. hierarchy channel

This field sets the unique index of the associated program element in a table of coding layer hierarchies The hierarchy embedded layer index is a field that defines the hierarchy table index of the program element that needs to be accessed before decoding of the elementary stream associated with this hierarchy descriptor. This field is undefined if the hierarchy type value is 15 (base layer). The hierarchy channel is a field that indicates the intended channel number for the associated program element in an ordered set of transmission channels. The most robust transmission channel is defined by the lowest value of this field with respect to the overall transmission hierarchy definition.

Characters coding This paragraph explains the characters coding implemented for PSI compiling (according to ARIB_STD-B241_v5.1_E1 and ABNTNBR15606-1).

Hereafter the table for the Latin characters coding; each character is codified by a specific hexadecimal value (1 byte). The XBT 527 Java software decodes automatically the latin characters inserted by user into the right hexadecimal values. This is not implemented for the following latin characters: 15/15, 10/0, DEL; the character SP must be inserted by keyboard space bar. The grey highlighted characters enable control functions and must be inserted between quotation marks (e.g. LS1).

Appendix A.

TS data Carousel Manager

Scope of this appendix is to provide information about: what is a TS data carousel; how SI/PSI are stored and forwarded; which are the commands provided to manage the TS data carousels by an external framework; how the real-time SI are managed by the device.

The XBT 527 Java software implements the carousel manager for the SI/PSI tables. As EIT carousel manager we suggest the XBT 777E, a PC-based machine that translates the user EIT tables, written in a metadata format (.csv files), and transfers them into device carousel memory. The following figure shows an example of transmission system:
Figure 28. SI/PSI Server in a sample transmission system

TCP/IP Connection to port 6000

TS inputs carry MPEG-2 TS data to be multiplexed, the device provides an internal memory accessible through a TCP/IP connection (on port 6000) for the storing of additional TS data. The stored and forwarded data could be SI/PSI ETSI or any other standard compliant, MHP carousel or any low rate private data. All data carousel are stored as TS packets into a memory partition. Each memory partition is defined by its output rate: data in each partition are stored and then read cyclically with a user-defined output period. Up to 15 different output rates (partitions) are available with a max number of 1024 TS packets for each partition. XBT527 is a dual-channel device. This means that up to two different TS can be generated and each channel has its own independent TS data carousel. Within each partition at most fifteen sub-partitions can be addressed. Sub partitions are organized in 256 bytes pages. A 256 bytes page is organized as follows:
Version 1.7a

188 bytes of Transport Stream data packets (SI/PSI tables);

XBT527_Help_v1_7a.doc Page 162 of 181

M.B. International Telecom Labs s.r.l. Internal data used for storing operation and to set the output rate.

ISO 9001:2000 Cert. N2190/1

Writing of data into the partition pages is fully managed by the device, some commands on the port 6000 TCP/IP connection are provided for the data transfer and organization in the carousel memory. The following table lists the commands provided to the DB manager in order to operate data transfer from SI/PSI DB Server to XBT527 internal memory.
Table 44. Command SI/PSI DB Manager commands Syntax ySIDXXXXYYYYYY Where: S: output selector o 0: Mux A; Command defining the partition. It defines to which memory partition SI/PSI data will be transferred, how many packets will be transferred and output tables rate. Description

ID: number of partition (from 0x00 up to 0x0E); XXXX: number of packet to be transferred (from 0 up to 0x0400); YYYYYY: output packets expressed in ms.

p1SXXXXData Where: S: output selector o 0: Mux A; Transfer command of data packets to XBT527 internal memory. It is not based on a direct addressing, but it makes use of memory partition. command); Data: 188 data packets.

XXXX: number of packet to be transferred (from 0 up to #packets 1 previously

Into the memory partitions dedicated to the storage of SI/PSI tables, at most 15 subpartitions can be addressed and 15 different output rates can be defined. Data storing operation is achieved through the use of both commands in the given sequence: 1) Command Y defines the partition to write.

Example: y0010010000064: the partition number 1 (001), set the memory to receive 16 packets (0010) and to play the partition at a rate of 100 ms (000064) 2) Command p1 must be repeated for each TS data packet transferred as many times as the parameter XXXX (number of packets) set with the command Y Example: p10000470100... ... transfers to the partition set of the channel Mux A (0) the 188 bytes of the packet number 0 (0000) Real-time SI like ETSI TDT or TOT are automatically updated with the clock of the device (manually set by the user or automatically synchronized to GPS if present) every time a table is sent output but still they have to be transferred in the TS data carousel (or passed trough one of the TS input if available) to have them present in the output.

Java Virtual Machine

The Java interface requires a host computer connected via Ethernet to the board with the proper Java Machine version installed.

C.1 Ethernet connection

The host computer has to be connected via Ethernet to the board. Direct or crossed UTP category 6 cable is recommended.

C.1.1 Configuration
In order to connect to the board trough a LAN, all the devices have to be on the same network. The default IP address settings of the X-port are: IP address: 10.77.xx.xx , where xx is the host address unique for each board. Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0 .

Remember to change these settings if they are not compatible with the LAN where the computer and the board are connected. IP address and network parameters can be changed only using the local interface. The device is designed to be used on TCP systems with Maximum Segment Size set to 1460 bytes. Sizes of packet greater than that could not be supported on Ethernet networks. Sizes of packet lower than that could cause trunking of data sent by the device.

C.2 Java(TM) Platform

C.2.1 Download
The Java Interface works with any Sun Java Virtual Machine after the 1.4.1 version. If the computer has no Java Virtual Machine installed, the recommended 1.5.0 version can be downloaded from the Sun Server trough this link: http://www.java.com/.
