Qualifications and Procedures for Degree Thesis Submission


Degree Thesis submissions shall be processed according to Chapter 4 of the Universit of Science and Technolog !egulations Governing Degree Conferral
"# Qualifications to Submit a Thesis for Degree A. M.S. Degree 1) A total of 32 credits acquired, or able to acquire during the corresponding semester 2) At least 1 scholarly paper published in domestic foreign professional !ournals 3) "assing the comprehensi#e e$amination %) &ecommendation from ad#isor '. "h. D. Degree 1) A total of (% credits acquired, or able to acquire during the corresponding semester 2) At least 1 scholarly paper published in reno)ned foreign professional !ournals such as S*+ 3) "assing the comprehensi#e e$amination %) Degree thesis proposal appro#ed ,) &ecommendation from ad#isor $# Degree Thesis %&amination - M.S "h.D degree candidates )ho meet all the qualifications pro#ided abo#e should submit a thesis for degree to the .hesis /$amination *ommittee. .he *ommittee chairperson )ill de#elop a detailed plan for e$amining the thesis, ta0ing into consideration the academic year. - M.S degree theses shall be e#aluated according to their problem-sol#ing abilities and academic #alidity in topic and contents, and .he results are indicated as either 1"assed1 or 12ailed1. Doctor3s degrees shall be !udged on their academic technical content, and their uniqueness and contribution to the concerned field on an international le#el4 .he results are indicated as either 1"assed1 or 12ailed1.

'# Submission of Thesis for Degree - Students )hose theses pass the e$amination must edit them according to the

accepted standards of )riting and submitting theses, and submit the document to the 5ffice of Academic Affairs no later than 6anuary 17 8for those graduating in 2ebruary) or 6uly 17 8for those graduating in August). 4# (ee for Thesis %&amination - Degree thesis e$amination fees shall be paid according to article 3( of the Academic &egulations4 details )ill be pro#ided in each semester3s Degree .hesis /$amination 9uide. )# Degree Conferral - A Degree is conferred upon a student by a #ote of the :ni#ersity *ommittee and )ith the "resident3s appro#al in 2ebruary and August of each year. *# (or further information+ please refer to UST !egulations on Governing Degree Conferral#

Students -ishing to submit degree thesis are advised to thoroughl revise and ac.uaint themselves to the follo-s#
1. 5nly those )ho ha#e earned the total number of credits required by the :S., and passed both the comprehensi#e and foreign language e$aminations may apply for the thesis e$amination. 2. .heses that are not in accordance )ith the .hesis ;riting 9uide can recei#e failing mar0s in the degree thesis e$amination. So please obser#e the guidelines and procedures pro#ided in the )riting guide in preparing and )riting degree thesis. 3. "lease note that the submission of theses beyond the deadlines shall not be permitted - nor )ill any changes to already submitted theses be allo)ed.

2# Cover Page0format "+ $1 - .he title must be printed in both Borean and or /nglish= if the title e$ceeds one line in length, the second line should be center-aligned. - .he /nglish title for the thesis shall be )rote together. .he date of thesis publication is the year of degree acquisition, and shall be printed at the #ery bottom of the page. /# 3nner Cover Pages4 2 page follo-ing the cover page 0format '1 C# 2pproval 4 Thesis approval page -ith signatures of committee head and members 0format 41 D# 2c5no-ledgement 0format )1 - Ac0no)ledgement shall be 0ept simple and plain, or may be s0ipped. %# 2bstract 0format *+ 61 - ;riting the abstract= /nglish and Borean abstracts shall be presented for Borean language theses, and an /nglish abstract shall be presented for /nglish theses. .he abstract shall be )ritten on a separate page. +n the title of /nglish abstracts, the first letters of all )ords e$cepting articles, con!unctions and prepositions shall be capitali<ed. A star8C) should follo) the title of foreign language abstracts, and footnotes attached at the bottom of the page. .he title of the degree applied for 8e.g. M.S. "h.D of Science) and the name of the applicant3s ma!or shall be recorded.

(# Table of Contents 0format 71 Table of Contents - .he title of each section presented in the table of contents shall e$actly match the according title in the thesis itself, and the page number of the according section shall be entered. - .he titles in the .able of *ontents shall contain the *hapter, Section and Subsections of each item. - .he indi#idual titles shall be, if possible, limited to a single line. +f t)o lines must be occupied by the title, the second line shall begin under the third character of the first. - .he table of contents shall be dedicated its o)n pages. - "age numbers shall be printed in the middle of the bottom of each page in lo)er case &oman numerals, and the number of the first page shall be the number follo)ing that of the appro#als page.

Tables of Contents for Table8(igure - A table of contents for tables and figures shall be prepared if the total number of tables and figures e$ceeds three. - .he number and title of each table and figure shall e$actly match that of the thesis body. - 2igures and tables in the appendi$ shall be included in the table and figure table of contents. - .he table and figure table of contents shall be printed on a dedicated page numbered after the table of contents page, numbered )ith lo)er-case &oman numerals. - +n the case that fe) figures and tables e$ist, the t)o shall be presented together under a single title4 ho)e#er, figure and tables shall be labeled according to their o)n order. 81) As the ending section of the thesis, the conclusion shall include the important results and findings of the study, and suggest topics for future research. 82) Suggestions and proposals may be recommended according to research results.
