This region is characterized by a marked relief of five forms. From west to east: coastal plains, Coastal Mountain Range, central depression, foothills and the Andes Mountains Range. The latter is characterized by the presence of volcanoes, which protrude into Peteroa Volcano (3,603 meters), Azufre Volcano (4,100 meters), Descabezado Grande (3,830 meters), Descabezado Chico and Quizapu - which activity and glacial action has created pristine and unknown Andean lagoons, as the Teno, located at the foot of Planchn Volcano (4,090 meters), Invernada and Dial Lagoons. The longitudinal valley has a flat topography interrupted only by the many rivers that cross it. However, towards the center and south of the region there is a preAndean relief between 400 and 1000 meters in height. The Coastal Range appears low, which causes mild relief basins and valleys. The main heights do not exceed 900 meters. Moreover, the coastal plains are well developed, with terraces that reach 200 meters and a width of about five kilometers, but interrupted by rivers flowing into the sea. The beaches in general are broad and gray sanded. The presence of dunes is appreciated especially in areas of Putu, Chanco and Curanipe.
The area of longitudinal valleys present a mild Mediterranean climate, with pronounced seasons: dry and hot in summer, rainy and slightly cold in autumn, cold and rainy in winter and dry and warm in spring. In the foothills up to 2,000 meters high, there is a slight change to a warm Mediterranean climate in height, in which temperatures drop slightly and increase rainfall. On the coast the climate is mild Mediterranean coastline, with moderate temperatures throughout the year.

Parish of Sagrado Corazn de Jess de Gualleco
Belonging to Curepto commune, Gualleco hamlet dates back to about the year 1736, a place full of alleys that during the earthquakes of 1786 and 1787 were severely damaged. Pirque Cementery
This valuable archaeological monument is located in the commune of Maule, specifically within Santa Aurelia Plot. The location is determined by applying a partial archaeological rescue, conducted by the National Monuments Council in the region in July 2006 with the objective of preventing the loss of information from a place seriously disturbed by construction works. Human remains were found at this site between 0.4 and 08 meters depth, which were buried directly in soil. These remains belonged to people of adult age and they laid in dorsal position with legs half bent. One of the excavations at the site allowed the discovery of a female individual, wearing a pair of copper earrings and a portion of a necklace with circular and tubular beads which manifested the presence of human occupation during the Late Ceramic Period (1470 to 1532 AD), which showed the manufacturing of pottery, and the practice of some type of agriculture. This finding could become the first empirical fact of the existence of indigenous Maulin population.
