JUSTIFICATION

Limerick is one of the most popular poems among children as this type of poem always being recognized as witty, humorous and lighthearted. This can be seen from the poem that we had chosen entitled There was a poor boy named Sid. The fun of this poem lies in its rhythm and its broad humour which are the main reasons why we decided to choose this poem. Therefore, we hope that this poem is suitable for Malaysian primary school students and it will attract students interest in learning English and can build a reading culture among them. This poem is suitable for students with the age of 7 to 10 years old (Year 1 to Year 4) and it is also suitable for the Malaysian Primary Classroom which consists of students with different proficiency levels. This is a simple and short poem as most of the words used in this poem are comprehensible. Thus, it synchronizes with the students level and helps the students to understand the meaning of the poem easily. However, there might be some difficult words for the students in the poem. It is a must for the teacher to help their students in explaining the difficult words so that they will understand the fun which is inserted in the poem itself. Moreover, students will benefit from learning the poems structure and the opportunity to write their own poems. Next, the content of this poem is suitable as we can integrated the moral values in our lesson. Moral value is vital as it is under one of the theme in Modular Curriculum, World of Stories. This poem teaches the children not to be ignorance in life. Children need to learn to ask for help especially from the adult or teacher if they have problem in understanding something. In addition, this poem also teaches the children to think before you act or do something. As stated in Standard Document of Primary School (KSSR), one of the Underlying Pedagogical Principles of the Curriculum is that learning the language must be fun thus creating meaningful and purposeful learning which to train them to learn by themselves. In order to create a meaningful and purposeful learning yet fun activities, the teacher can encourage their students to write their own limericks poem by referring to the poem given. It was writing their own that proved to be more difficult. But not in their minds. This is because the students might enjoy writing

their own poems and eventually develop their interest in learning poetry. In addition, it also helps pupils to improve their reading skills and vocabulary. In conclusion, the use of limerick poem in teaching will enable the objective of appreciate and demonstrate understanding of English language literary or creative works for enjoyment as stated in KSSR.

ACROSTIC POEM

JUSTIFICATION
The poem entitled Flowers by Lisa.D is an acrostic poem. We choose acrostic poem because it is a very popular and fun poetic form in schools. Moreover, it is suitable to be teach in Malaysian Primary School Classroom from Level 1 to Level 2. This is because an acrostic poem is very easy to write as it can be about any subject. Therefore, every students can learn to write this type of poem themselves. The higher the level of the students, the higher frequency words can be used. For the poem that we had chosen, it is suitable for students with the age of 9 to 10 years old (Year 3 to Year 4) and it is also suitable for the Malaysian Primary Classroom which consists of students with different proficiency levels. This is a simple and short poem as most of the words used in this poem are comprehensible. Thus, it synchronizes with the students level and helps the students to understand the meaning of the poem easily. Next, the content of the poem also suitable for the students as the poem teaches about plants and colours that is under one of the theme in Modular Curriculum, World of Knowledge. Other than that, this poem also teaches new vocabulary and adjectives to the students through the words used. Apart from that, as mentioned in Standard Document of Primary School (KSSR), one of the Underlying Pedagogical Principles of the Curriculum is that learning the language must be fun thus creating meaningful and purposeful learning. Teachers can create various activities in the classroom by using this type of poem especially when acrostic poem is really easy to write and fun. For example, the teacher may use the poem Flowers as an example and demonstrate the gathering of ideas before writing each line to the students. After that, ask the students to write their own acrostic poem by using the letters of their first name, and then create an acrostic poem with adjectives that describe themselves. This activity can be really fun and interesting as they can learn to write their own poem and eventually improve their writing skills as stated in KSSR Content.

In conclusion, the use of acrostic poem in teaching will enable the objective of appreciate and demonstrate understanding of English language literary or creative works for enjoyment as stated in KSSR.

SONG JUSTIFICATION

JUSTIFICATION The song that we had chosen is a song entitled Nouns by Lynn Ahrens. This is a pop genre song. This song is suitable for students with the age of 9 to 12 years old which are the Year 3 to Year 6 pupils. Besides, it is an appropriate song for the students with different proficiency level. The sentence structure used in this song is rather simple. The words used are easy to understand and suitable for students in Year 3 to Year 6. It is important for them to read a reading text or material which contains a lot of simple words. It consists a lot of nouns due to the song itself telling us about nouns. Moreover, there is also a lot of repetitions in this song such as You know they're nouns, You know they're nouns, oh. Literally, repetition could help the low proficiency pupils to improve their vocabulary and language. Besides, as mentioned in Standard Document of Primary School (KSSR), one of the Underlying Pedagogical Principles of the Curriculum is that learning the language must be fun thus creating meaningful and purposeful learning. The students can learn directly about noun through this song. While they sing, they also can learn to identify the nouns in the song. Furthermore, teacher also can create various activities based on the song. As an example, the teacher may ask the students to find and list down as many nouns as possible from the song and also create a short story from the words found. This eventually can create a fun yet meaningful and purposeful learning. The content of this song is suitable for the young learners as it focuses on teaching Grammar which is nouns to the students starting from Year 3. It is a compulsory for all the teachers to teach this topic as it is included in the English Language Curriculum for Primary Schools (KSSR). According to the Content Standard of KSSR, it is believed prudent and pedagogically sound to defer the learning of grammar to a later stage. Pupils should be given the opportunity to develop an awareness of grammar in their first language and this awareness may then be exploited when English grammar is introduced in Year 3. This approach will reduce the load and stress of learning in the early years where the emphasis is on learning through fun and play. There are a lot of nouns could be seen in the song. This can help in teaching and learning where the students learn and recognize about noun easily through the song.

Aside from improving students grammar, this song also helps in improving their pronunciation and speaking fluency as the lyrics contain a lot of repetitions. To conclude, this song is really suitable for teaching in an ESL Primary Classroom as it have a lot of benefits. It allow pupils to hear English in context, naturally, to listen repeatedly, to enjoy learning, to be more involved in learning and teaching process, to be focused and motivated and remember language more easily and for longer time.

POP SONG REACH FOR THE STARS BY S CLUB 7

JUSTIFICATION

R&B songs are very catchy as it is the combination of rhythm and blues. The song entitled Reach for The Stars by S Club 7 was chosen because of the inspiring and catchy lyrics. This song has been used in English language learning classrooms overseas where this particular song gives motivation for one student to reach their goal and dreams. This song is suitable for high level proficiency students which are Year 5 and Year 6. This is due to the tendency of the words used are high frequency words. However, it may somehow help the teacher so that they can prepare their students for the real world in terms of using the language as stated as one of the educational emphasis in the year 5 Malaysian Curriculum Specifications. Moreover, it can also encourage language learning potentials among these high level proficiency students, whereby, we as an ESL teacher have to teach them all the word that they do not understand, then they will understand the meaning of the song. Eventually, those difficult words would help the students to improve their vocabulary as they could learn new words through the song. Next, the content of the song also suitable for the students as the song tells about friendship that is under the Modular Curriculum, World of Self, Family and Friends. This song gives motivation to learn English with the peers in terms of helping each other. Also, teachers could instil character building among the pupils through this song as they would learn about the importance to take care of the relationship with friends. The song also gives motivation to the students to follow their dreams so that they can fulfil their goals. Besides, as mentioned in Standard Document of Primary School (KSSR), one of the Underlying Pedagogical Principles of the Curriculum is that learning the language must be fun thus creating meaningful and purposeful learning. The students can do actions while singing the song. By including some actions, students would be enjoying the lesson yet at the same time, they are learning.

To sum up, this song is really good to be used in the English Primary School Classroom as it have a very catchy lyrics as well as can give motivations to the students to fulfil their dreams.
