An Introduction to Microsoft Word & Edmodo w/ Written Reflection Essay Assignment


This is a 100 point assignment that includes an Introduction to the Basics of Microsoft Word and Edmodo based upon a Written Reflection on the new school semester. In this assignment, the objectives are to: 1.) 2.) 3.) 4.) Demonstrate a proficient ability to properly use Microsoft Word. Demonstrate a basic ability to properly use a Flash Drive. Demonstrate a basic ability to properly use Edmodo. Compose an original essay and publish it to peers using MS Word and Edmodo.

Demonstration of each of these specific MS Word step-by-step skills will account for the general overall objectives being achieved. In this assignment, students will: a. Open MS Word & start a new blank document. b. Set up MS Word Document with the proper school/college formatting (Times New Roman, 12 Point font, Double Spaced). c. Save a MS Word Document to a Flash Drive. d. Cut, copy, and paste words, sentences, and paragraphs with MS Word. e. Use Italic, Underline and Bold with MS Word. f. Set the margins with MS Word. g. Select and use different fonts with MS Word. h. Set alignment with MS Word. i. Set the line spacing with MS Word. j. Use of spell check with MS Word. k. Locate, save, and insert Pictures into documents with MS Word. l. Print their documents with MS Word. m. Set up the proper heading in Mr. Kings class for documents in MS Word. n. Open up personal accounts in Edmodo. o. Join their accounts to their Class Period Groups in Edmodo.

p. Post their MS Word essay documents to Edmodo. q. Comment on the MS Word essay document of another student using Edmodo. r. Show the proper 10 finger, going slow at first, no looking at the keyboard, and being sure technique developing throughout this assignment. Directions for Assignment: 1.) First, you will write a 2-3 paragraph (10-15 sentence) New Semester Reflection Essay first draft ON PAPER about the new school year! What has happened so far this semester at school? What do you like the most about school this semester? What are you excited about? What do you think might be your biggest challenge? 2.) Each day over about 2 weeks, you will be taught a series of 14 Microsoft Word and 3 Edmodo step-by-step lessons to gain the knowledge needed to demonstrate the skills which collectively indicate the attainment of the 3 objectives. 3.) Type your New School Semester essay into a Microsoft Word document. 4.) Format these sentences within your Microsoft Word document according to the Microsoft Word & Edmodo Writing Assignment Rubric attached to this assignment. 5.) Write a checkmark into each category box on the Rubric when you have completed that task. 6.) Insert your Flash Drive and create a folder on it entitled Computer Skills 6 or Computer Skills 7 depending upon your grade level. 7.) Save your essay in a Microsoft Word document (.docx) file onto your Flash Drive within your Computer Skills 6 or Computer Skills 7 folder. 8.) Sign up to open an Edmodo Im a Student account at www.edmodo.com with a personal User Name of FirstnameLastinitial2014 and a Password of your choice. 9.) Join your class period Edmodo group with the Group Code which will be provided for you by Mr. King. 10.) Keep your Edmodo User Name and Password (and all of your User Names and Passwords) written in a safe permanent place for this semester. 11.) Post your New School Semester essay in a Microsoft Word document (.docx) file onto Edmodo. 12.) Comment on an essay posted by another student in Edmodo. 13.) Finally, print your essay and turn a hardcopy in to Mr. King.

Points 8 Heading Essay has proper heading with Name, Date, Period #, and Group # Right Aligned in the Header. Points 6 Essay has heading with Name, Date, Period #, and Group # in the Header but not Right Aligned. Points 4 Essay has heading with Name, Date, Period #, and Group # but it is not Right Aligned and not in the Header Poor title and incorrect placement of it. Points 2 Essay has name but no Header.
