Week 1 Lesson: 1 Day: 3 Objective: The students will have been introduced to the Fodey website to create their

own Newspaper Clipping. Students will finalize the most important information they want to include in their clipping while putting the information in their own words. Content Standards: Common Core standards: RI.2.3 Describe the connection between a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, or steps in technical procedures in a text. RI.2.7 Explain how specific images (e.g., a diagram showing how a machine works) contribute to and clarify a text. W.2.2 Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section. W.2.6 With guidance and support from adults, use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers. W.2.7 Participate in shared research and writing projects (e.g., read a number of books on a single topic to produce a report; record science observations). SL.2.6 Produce complete sentences when appropriate to task and situation in order to provide requested detail or clarification. (See grade 2 Language standards 1 and 3 for specific expectations.) 1. Have students collect their final information and start compiling what they think is the most important. 2. Have students write the information found in their own words, with complete and thoughtful sentences, using the Pages app. 3. Students need to edit and revise the information before inputting it in the Fodey website. 4. Once the information is correctly punctuated and in complete sentences they can head to the http://www.fodey.com/generators/newspaper/snippet.asp website. 5. Have students copy and paste their finished write up on their life cycle and paste it into the Newspaper Clipping generator. 6. Once the students have entered the information into the website and generated their Newspaper Clipping they can now save it to the camera roll. 7. As the students finish up the final product, print their clippings out so they can look at a physical copy.

The project reflected all portions of the research in the Newspaper Clipping was completed correctly. There were more than three pieces of sited research. The activity reflected a good understanding of the life cycle.
