Diagram below shows the arrangement of the apparatus used for preparing substance Z. Substance Z is the
potassium salt of a carboxylic acid salt a long chain. In this experiment, 20 cm3 of palm oil are mixed with 50
cm3 of 3 mol dm3 potassium hydroxide solution and the mixture is heated until it has boiled for 10 minutes.
The mixture is constantly stirred with a glass rod throughout the heating. At the end of the heating, substance
Z is formed in the solution.
