2'1 In order to comply !ith $he Control of Noise at (or" regulations +,,- it is recommended that the follo!ing actions are ta"en'

Re"ulation # $ Assessment o% t&e risk to &ealt& an! sa%et' create! b' e(posure to noise in t&e )orkplace* $his report records the measurements ta"en as part of this noise assessment' $he assessment should be revie!ed and updated under the follo!ing conditions a' Changes in the !or" place such as alterations to the building% b' Changes in people such as ne! staff or changes to shift roster% c' Ne! plant or machinery% d' After a period of t!o years has passed !ith no other changes' It should be noted that as plant ages its noise level may rise' It is recommended that assessments are "ept for a period of 1, years' If the company ceases to trade then the reports must be passed to the enforcing authority' Re"ulation + $ ,limination or control o% e(posure to noise in t&e )orkplace* Your Company should ensure that the ris" from e posure to noise for their employees is either eliminated at source or !here this is not reasonable practicable% then it is reduced to as lo! a level as is reasonably practicable' Due to the nature of the generators used it is not possible to reduce any further the noise levels engineers !ill be e posed to' Re"ulation - . /earin" Protection /ersonal hearing protection should only be used as a last resort !hen all possible noise reduction measures have been achieved under regulation .' <or employees !ho are li"ely to be e posed to #5/%d at or above the #o!er Action 6alue 7#A68 of 3,d>7A8 but belo! the Bigher Action 6alue 7BA68 3-d>7A8 suitable hearing protection must be made available % ho!ever the !earing of such protection is optional but advisable' <or areas !here the employees #5/%d has been identified as e ceeding the ?A6 of 3-d>7A8 then the !earing of suitable Bearing protection is compulsory' $hese areas shall also be mar"ed as Hearing Protection Zones and mar"ed as !ith appropriate signage' $he signs used shall comply !ith the Bealth C Safety 7Safety Signs and Signals8 Regulations 144.' $he regulations also have an 5 posure #imit value 75#68 of 3; d> 7A8 this value to be calculated ta"ing into account personal hearing protection !orn by operatives' 9uidance issued by the BS5 states that under real use hearing protectors !ill give lo!er protection than predicted by the manufacturer' $his can be caused by the !earing of spectacles% incorrect selection of protection or poor fitting of protection' $o ta"e these factors into account the BS5 recommend that the protector is deDrated by 1d>' -

$a"ing this into account together !ith the noise levels and e posure time as sho!n in table 1% the hearing protection provided 7as approved by Your Company EBS department8 !ill provide ade)uate attenuation and "eep their noise e posure belo! the 5#6 of 3;d>7A8' Re"ulation 0 . Maintenance an! use o% e1uipment Your Company shall ensure that all e)uipment under their control on site 7e'g' e haust silencers% shrouds and acoustic enclosures8 are in accordance !ith these Regulations% fully maintained and "ept in good repair in accordance !ith manufacturerFs instructions' 5mployees shall use as instructed any and all hearing protection as issued by the company% they shall "eep it clean and in good condition and stored in a clean dry location' Also all defects are to be immediately reported to the site Supervisor so that the protection can be replaced' Re"ulation 2 $ /ealt& Surveillance Your Company should provide health surveillance to engineers regularly e posed to noise levels above the ?A6 of 3- d> 7A8' <or engineers e posed to noise levels bet!een the #A6 and ?A6% or for occasional e posure above the ?A6% health surveillance !ill only be re)uired if information comes to light that the engineer may be particularly sensitive to noiseDinduced hearing loss 7NIB#8' Re"ulation 13 . 4n%ormation 5 4nstruction an! 6rainin" Your Company !ill provide to each of their employees !ho are liable to be e posed to a #5/%d e)ual to or above the #A6 Instruction% information and training of the follo!ing sub0ectsA 7a8 7b8 7c8 7d8 7e8 7f8 7g8 7h8 7i8 $he nature of ris"s from e posure to noise% $he organisational and technical measures ta"en in order to comply !ith the re)uirements of Regulation .% $he e posure limit values and upper and lo!er e posure levels set out in Regulation 1% $he significant findings of the ris" assessment% including any measures ta"en !ith an e planation of those findings% $he availability and provision of personal hearing protection under Regulation ; and the correct use in accordance !ith Regulation 37+8% (hy and ho! to detect and report signs of hearing damage% $he entitlement to health surveillance under Regulation 4 and its purposes% Safe !or"ing practices to minimise e posure to noise% $he collective results of any health surveillance underta"en in accordance !ith regulation 4% in a form designed to prevent those results being identified as relating to a particular person'
