Audience feedback Female, 50 Soap trailer Does the genre of this text come across clearly?

Absolutely, clear association with the under world Can you follow the narrative being presented here? Yes its clear that peoples lives are going to be affected by choosing the wrong path Are the roles of key characters / contributors clearly presented? Can identify people who are in control and victims amongst them Are the characters at all identifiable or similar to other characters youve seen before? Looks like its a soap but has a documentary edge, in the way it explores the characters personal takes on their lives and what theyre involved in, Would you tune in to watch this programme / the rest of this programme? Why / why not? Yes, because gives an insight as to what goes on, its not a separate world, drugs are part of the world we live in and need to be made aware of this and how it can affect us. Especially for a younger generation will see elements of themselves and those surrounding them What elements appealed to you the most? Seeing the characters as individuals, watching their lives pan out Print work In each instance: would this print text catch your attention? Why/ Why not? The magazine cover - drawn to centre with bold text then to the comment most shocking soap yet this is shocking in itself The poster - layout is appealing and the imagery is very strong How might it persuade you to watch the programme? Why / why not? The poster image is really strong, characters expression is quite endearing and mysterious wonder who he is in the soap The magazine cover would probably watch a new soap opera if its being talked about as being the most shocking soap yet How do you think they could be improved? The poster theres not enough drawing you in to watch it, perhaps bolder text, a piece of text that identifies the person pictured that would attract me to watch it, because then you feel their more of an accessible character What elements appeal to you and what others dont? The poster I really like the image and the layout however not sure as to what it means by face up to experience, in what context? What does it refer to? As, if youve never seen it before, how would you know what its about? The magazine cover resembles a typical TV mag cover with good use of colour and

bold text Male aged 49 Soap trailer Does the genre of this text come across clearly? Well there's a clear focus on criminal activity, as violence is shown explicitly and its obvious that the issue surrounding this is drugs Can you follow the narrative being presented here? The snip-its of each character showing their lives make it more like a soap and give just enough away about the narrative that make me want to see what happens and how they actually all link up Are the roles of key characters / contributors clearly presented? From this Im guessing their all drug dealers, with varying roles; a kind of hierarchy is established in this mix of characters Are the characters at all identifiable or similar to other characters youve seen before? I think the range of very different individual characters builds a sense of community within this drug world, instead of creating a gang, as they are each so different, thats what makes it more like a soap than a crime drama Would you tune in to watch this programme / the rest of this programme? Why / why not? Yes I would but Im not a dedicated TV watcher unless something really catches my attention but Id definitely like to see the first episode. What elements appealed to you the most? I think the range of characters really adds to the storytelling and shows that the plot has plenty of development going forwards Print work In each instance: would this print text catch your attention? Why/ Why not? The magazine cover bold text and use of colour typical of any TV mag The poster the image draws your attention to the vertical text Might it persuade you to watch the programme? Why / why not? The magazine cover the title is intriguing as it promotes an unusual type of soap opera The poster the person pictured is quite mysterious, the BBC three logo is telling in what to expect as BBC Three are known for more modern realistic portrayals of life, I often watch this channel How do you think it could be improved? The magazine cover the images of the two supposed characters look a bit out of place are they supposed to be together? The poster not to sure what the soap is about and what is the experience? What elements appeal to you and what others dont? The magazine cover I think this is a thoughtful recreation of a TV mag, with all typical

elements in place, however pictures could be better sized and arranged The poster I like the colour scheme with the dual colour font, not sure as to whether this actually promotes the soap though Soap Trailer Male, 38 Does the genre of this text come across clearly? Its clear that crime and drug dealing is a theme but this isnt typical of soap operas however from the trailer it looks like it may go on to develop other narratives Can you follow the narrative being presented here? I think the insights into each characters lives provide a window into the drug-dealing world from varied perspectives Are the roles of key characters / contributors clearly presented? It looks like this drama is going to explore the characters, the focus is on them proving that they arent that simple, Are the characters at all identifiable or similar to other characters youve seen before? I like that not all the characters are so simple despite being drug dealers it reminds us they have family, the criminally involved are made more accessible in this way, this is true of soaps, as they have a tendency to make us develop sympathies for unlikely characters Would you tune in to watch this programme / the rest of this programme? Why / why not? Yes Id definitely like to see what happens to these characters as the trailer introduces them as individuals, but Id also like to see what happens when their stories cross over What elements appealed to you the most? Im not mad keen on soap operas, yet this one is almost like a hybrid as it seems more interesting, dealing with issues that appeal to me rather than the typical soap storylines Print work In each instance: would this print text catch your attention? Why/ Why not? The magazine cover bright colours and bold font, as well as new characters which havent seen before The poster like the way the text is arranged makes you stop and look at it in order to read it Might it persuade you to watch the programme? Why / why not? The magazine cover promotes a new programme well The poster doesnt tell enough about what it is, the image if powerful though presume thats a character How do you think it could be improved? The magazine cover have the actual name or logo of the soap on the cover as its new The posters keep the layout of the text but change the wording to something, which

informs you about the soap What elements appeal to you and what others dont? The magazine cover like the use of text, is bold and eye catching, range of colours The poster like the layout and how the text surrounds the character in the photo Soap trailer Male, 16 Does the genre of this text come across clearly? Id say its a drama focused on crime and drug dealing, less like a soap Can you follow the narrative being presented here? Im not sure how the bodies on the flow tie into the snip-its of each character with their own roles and who are they? Are the roles of key characters / contributors clearly presented? Its clear all four characters are involved with drugs, but each individual has a different role some more serious than others and some are affected by what they are doing Are the characters at all identifiable or similar to other characters youve seen before? The girl who is seen counting drug money is something Ive seen before, teenagers who dont have much else to do or much of a future turn to drug dealing as a way of earning money, and by having a younger female character shes someone the audience can fee l sorry for. Would you tune in to watch this programme / the rest of this programme? Why / why not? Id like to see how serious and bad it can really get, as drug dealing is something some dramas rarely look at normally its crime drama that tackle such issues so it would be interesting to see how that is put across What elements appealed to you the most? I think by showing the characters as individuals sets them apart from what you normally associate with drug dealers that their not gangsters, normal peo ple do it to as a way of earning money and respect. Print work In each instance: would this print text catch your attention? Why/ Why not? The poster I like the way the text wraps around the image, the photograph makes me want to know who he is The magazine cover the bold black and white text with the speech bubble makes it clear its a new drama Might it persuade you to watch the programme? Why / why not? The poster yes, I think the shot of this one character makes you wonder who he is and what is the experience you need to see it to find out The magazine cover the fact that it is the most shocking soap yet makes me want to see it, might be better than normal soaps which I find quite boring How do you think it could be improved?

The poster maybe a better catch phrase so have an idea of the type of character he is The magazine cover the layout is good but some of the images need rescaling then the proportions will be right What elements appeal to you and what others dont? The poster I really like the image and the way the text fits in The magazine cover I like the use of graphics and shapes very convincing Soap trailer Female, 18 Does the genre of this text come across clearly? It first appears as a crime drama but when you see each individual character the drama is more focused on the peoples lives rather than the overarching issue of drug dealing Can you follow the narrative being presented here? I was slightly confused as to where the bodies come into it; did all of the characters have something to do with it? Do the characters know one another? Are the roles of key characters / contributors clearly presented? Its an unusual choice to follow the individuals lives, but this relates more so with a soap than a drama, as for each of the characters being very different with their own separate lives its clear drug dealing isnt so one dimensional Are the characters at all identifiable or similar to other characters youve seen before? I think the young girl is a character you can guarantee being included when trying to expose people to the affects of drug dealing, the mix of characters shows two ends of the spectrum people who are heavily involved and others who do it because they have to; therefore my sympathies already lay with her Would you tune in to watch this programme / the rest of this programme? Why / why not? I would watch this programme as Id be interested to see the extent at which such a negative issue can be explored and whether the narrative will focus on the individuals separately or whether they cross paths, the trailer leaves it open to possibility What elements appealed to you the most? I like the fact that the trailer doesnt give too much away instead it prov ides a glimpse into the lives of those involved in drug dealing, and I think its a brave choice to represent this lifestyle through individuals rather than the over used gang mentality. Print work In each instance: would this print text catch your attention? Why/ Why not? The poster I really like the image and the way a shadow has been cast, its almost as though the character has been caught The magazine cover resembles the typical layout and has the same features as an TV mag, with the basic template being so similar its a good promotional platform Might it persuade you to watch the programme? Why / why not?

The poster Im intrigued as to who this figure is and what BBC Threes FASTLANE is The magazine cover the language used in the bold headline and speech bubble suggest its worth watching How do you think it could be improved? The poster I dont really know what the programme is about and who the character is only what time and where I can see it is provided, Id kept the placement of the text the same but change what it actually says The magazine cover the images of the characters from this new soap look a bit out of place, could be rearranged or resized What elements appeal to you and what others dont? The poster I really like how the text is formatted around the figure, but I dont think it tells enough to make me go home and want to watch The magazine cover the use of strong bold colours surprisingly dont clash I can see that more suiting colours have been chosen to fit in with the type of drama it is Soap trailer Male, 18 The trailer Does the genre of this text come across clearly? Action drama a good amount of both aspects throughout the trailer Social realist soap Can you follow the narrative being presented here? Its quite difficult as there are many different links and individual stories to be told Are the roles of key characters / contributors clearly presented? Yes, I could clearly identify victims, a back story for the character tied up as he is questioned: Do you think Id let you get away with this something to anticipate however I couldnt understand who and what the girl at 1.10 min purpose was. Are the characters at all identifiable or similar to other characters youve seen before? I dont watch any programs that are similar so I cant identify as such, but there are clear character types Would you tune in to watch this programme / the rest of this programme? Why / why not? As for myself I do not usually watch this genre of programme however this seems to be quiet a large focus on action that makes me curious to watch. What elements appealed to you the most? The scene where a character is getting hit Intriguing element of mystery as to why? What has he done? *Maybe adding a sound effect for the punch or hit to his face
