1.0 Introduction
The title I choose for my final year project is controlling bandwidth management for home based networks. As of today, everything is available on internet. People dont want to spend money and buy cds as their desirable program is easily accessible on internet. The network congestion is increasing tremendously due to the growing use of multimedia application. This led to traffic flows and unresponsive misbehaves. As the user starts to download their favourite games or any other application, the speed of the internet gets lower and the programme tend to occupy all the bandwidth available. This can result in lowering the connection and it makes harder for other users to access internet who are on the same LAN. The software will help the technical staff to allow and give fair allocation of the internet. The system will also be able to manage and review the activity of the users bandwidth and perform better ways to get rid of unfair usage. For e.g. the user is assigned to the maximum amount of data usage i.e 50GB. If the user crosses that limit the technical team has the right to limit his usage and upon using more data by the user, the

team has the right to surcharge them. The technical team can also generate report which will contain the user data usage. The details can be download size, website visited, ip address etc. The basic feature expected by this application is to create or allocate IPs for users. Few more features can be: Use firewall to prevent any unauthorized access Graph of traffic Packet transfer speed Surfing monitoring Generate reports of users Block unknown or harmful websites

2.0 Problem Statement

One of the problems is that if any user is download huge size applications or movies, the connection for the rest of the users will go down. The problem is that its hard to identify for the technical team to find out who is using more bandwidth. The rapid and more use of streaming media traffic is also one of the main concerns in internet world. Streaming media does not respond to congestion which can lead to packet loss and unfair bandwidth allocation. Another point is that there are programs available but they are expensive or they are only for big organizations but not for home based networks.

3.0 Projects Aim and Objectives

3.1 Aim The main aim of this project is to build and develop a program that will allow management of internet connection and it allows fair usage among home based network. With the help of this application, the technical team would be able to monitor each activity by each user and it will help them to identify and solve any issue regarding unfair management. The application will be able to generate reports and to overcome any bandwidth issue.

3.2 Objectives Allow fair usage of bandwidth To develop software that is easy to use Improving the fairness of bandwidth allocations Application that allow the technical team to monitor and manage bandwidth To efficiently record speed of transmission of packets Restrict any unresponsive traffic

To develop a system that will improve the accuracy of data flow 4.0 Deliverables
The system should be easy to use and user-friendly. It will be installed easily for the technical team. It will help the team to find and monitor any unfair usage. It will also be able to keep track of users activity for bandwidth. The software will also be able to detect any unknown or harmful websites visited by the users. This will help them to block the websites that are not secure. It would be helpful because many sites use scripts to steal personal information of the users. The technical team would be able to detect any abnormal behavior on the network and can take steps to eliminate any problem immediately.
