International Conducting Masterclass With Professor Yuri Simonov (Moscow)

Goals and Objectives Masterclass will comprise twelve training days aimed at explaining and displaying basic concepts of the Leningrad Orchestral Conducting School, outlined and systematized by Mr. Yuri Simonov based on his personal musical and teaching experience. Musical pieces diverse in nature and style have been pre-selected for the program. They were chosen since every one of them poses a typical challenge and its numerous variations that conductors are forced to face throughout their entire professional life.

Daily

During individual training sessions (piano and/or orchestra) participants attention will focus on specific practical objectives including tempo changes, conducting patterns and cues, and phrasing. A lot of time will be invested in studying expressive gestures, since the artistic value of conducting is always a function of conductor's ability to use his/her hands skillfully and freely.

Candidates are expected to bring their own scores of all pieces. Applicants are advised to mark their scores and have them ready for the orchestra rehearsal, notably: articulations for stringed instruments (up or down; legato or staccato, etc.) same for brass and windwood instruments (tenuto, staccato, legato, etc.) dynamic modifications and retouching time, phrase and harmonics modification marks any additional notes and requirements Candidates are advised to be familiar with timing of each piece they are to perform: this will help you to plan your orchestra rehearsal time wisely. Masterclass Participation Fee Active - 1,300 euro (double room accommodation included) - 500 euro (no accommodation) Passive - 1,100 euro (double room accommodation included) - 300 euro (no accommodation) We offer special fees for CIS citizens. Participants are expected to cover their own travel expenses.

Application Procedure To participate in the masterclass you need to complete the application form and provide a link to 10-15 minutes video recording demonstrating your work with classical music repertoire (rehearsal or performance with an orchestra). Video records are accepted in the form of direct links to file sharing/hosting server (dropmefiles.com is recommended), where you should upload your video.There is a special line for link in the application form. Please mail your application form to masterclass@meloman.ru before before April 20, 2014. Maestro Yuri Simonov will personally review all submitted videos and select active participants. Full selection results will be posted to www.meloman.ru not later than May 15, 2014. In case you are not selected as an active full-time participant you might be offered a passive status during the masterclass. When you have received confirmation of your participation in the masterclass, you will also receive further explanation on the payment procedure and an official invitation for visa application (if required).
