How to save, print and transfer files in computer labs

PRINT
A Unicard is required. It can be purchased or re-charged from a Unicard Autoloader around university. The nearest location is ERC Library level 1 and level 3. Autoloader locations can be found at http://www.studentit.unimelb.edu.au/printingandscanning/unicard.html . Select Print from the application you are using. . Select printer Maths on 000s-uniprint.unicard.unimelb.edu.au. . Click OK (if no special settings, otherwise see How to as below) . Go to the Printing Station Room G65 (ground floor, near Wilson Lab G70) . Insert the Unicard into the card reader. Follow the instructions near the card reader to print. Money will be deducted from the card. The charge is 10 cents per single sided page and 20 cents per double-sided page. Note that printouts can be collected at any time during the lab opening time. Print jobs not accounted for will be deleted after 60 minutes.

How to print double-sided Select Print from the application you are using. Click Properties, Finishing tab. Tick Print Both Sides. How to print portrait or landscape Select Print, Properties, Finishing tab. Tick Portrait or Landscape option.

How to print multiple pages on one sheet Select Print, Properties. At Page Scaling option, select Multi pages per sheet from drop-down menu (if PDF file) At Pages per sheet option, select the number of pages that you want per sheet (eg. 4)

SAVE
Students should save their data in D:\Student Data folder. The shortcut to Student Data can be found on desktop. This folder will be cleared every Friday night. If the file is confidential, please copy it to your own device such as USB stick and delete the file before logging off. USB key is recommended to save files to. To eject a USB drive, click on EJECT USB DRIVE click here icon on desktop.

TRANSFER FILES
There are a few options: 1. Sending an email to yourself with an attachment. 2. Copying to USB drives 3. Using Student Portal or LMS 4. Using WS_FTP a. Open WS_FTP program from Applications folder on the desktop. b. Click on Profile Name and select a pre-set hostname or type in the full name of the host machine including domain name (eg. mail.student.unimelb.edu.au c. Enter in your username and password. d. Click OK e. The next window consists of two sessions, the left session is the display of the local computer. The right session is the display of the remote host. To copy files from the Student Data folder to the remote host, open Student Data on the lelf session by double clicking on [-D-] drive at the bottom of the list. Then select the file you want to copy and click on the right arrow key button. f. Close the application when finished.

Note: Students should make frequent and regular backups of all relevant documents to alleviate any loss or corruption of data. Files saved on the lab computers will be deleted every Friday night.
