You dont need to read scriptures to be able to let that load in your chest float away. Sit Correctly Sit down. The preferred sitting position is crossed legs sitting on the floor, back straight without any backrest. You can also do this if you are in the office. Just sit straight in your office chair, close your eyes. Relax your arms but keep straight and be still. Keep your hands relaxed on your legs. Keep a symmetrical posture. Remember that this is not an easy journey and that it requires discipline. Resist the urge to fall back or slouch. Imagine yourself travelling not through time but beyond it and imagine your mind expanding into the furthest reaches of space. Then let all of it go and be in a space of nowhere and have nothing in your mind. Be Quiet The first step to relaxation is peace. If you cant be at peace then that is a sign that you need to meditate very badly. Let all the words go from your tongue and most importantly, empty your head of all words. Only when you have been able to let go of things without that irritable reaching after the fact or knowledge will you be able to relax. Take it easy. Control Your Breathing Breathing techniques are simple. This is why it is easy to meditate, even for beginners. Slow down your breathing. Take deep breaths. In hale, then exhale, inhale, then exhale again. While you slow down your breathing, you will also notice that your heart (especially if you were palpitating from stress) will start to slow down and begin to relax. If you focus your whole being into your body posture and your breathing, you will find the focus for meditation just like a marathon runner, focusing his energy in his rhythmic movements.
